Responsibilities

The Advisory & Financing Group works closely with M&A, ECM, sector coverage bankers and a wide range of product groups. AFG acts as corporate finance advisory and strategic financing unit for the corporate client base. Our clients are CFOs, Treasurers, heads of Corp Dev of corporate clients from pre-IPO growth companies to the largest megacaps, across all sectors. We seek to build long term relationships with these clients through differentiated analytical advice and financing transaction leadership. more specifically, we:

  • Underwrite and execute strategic corporate financings (eg. acquisitions, separations, recapitalizations, growth financing) for some of the most visible M&A deals on Wall Street
  • Perform extensive corporate finance analysis (eg. valuation drivers, capital allocation & capital structure optimization, other bespoke analytical frameworks)

When working for AFG, you will get the opportunity to work closely with the following teams:
  • Mergers & Acquisitions: advisory and execution across the full M&A product suite, in addition to valuation and strategic corporate advice with a cross-border focus
  • Equity Capital Markets: analysis and execution of equity transactions from IPOs to buybacks, currently undergoing a sizeable investment are we grows its platform and IPO pipeline
  • Credit Ratings Advisory: builds rating strategies, prepares initial ratings, communication strategy

Our corporate value chain has experienced significant growth over recent years with clients recognizing the quality of AFG analysis on engagements as one of the key drivers behind a growing number of top-tier level corporate relationships and mandates.

Advisory & Origination
  • Work within an investment banking team to perform financial analysis and corporate finance advisory in support of senior team members
  • Combine academic and “real world” corporate finance knowledge to form opinions and provide recommendations on strategic positioning/shareholder analysis / valuation drivers/capital allocation / capital structure/potential targets/financing solutions/ESG strategy
  • Coordinate between different teams to structure multiproduct solutions and create cohesive recommendations, including: Industry Coverage, Advisory & Financing Group, Debt & Equity Capital Markets, Mergers & Acquisitions, Credit Ratings Advisory, ESG, Syndicate, Equity Derivatives, IR/FX Derivatives, etc.
  • Assist in the preparation of clear and concise bespoke presentation materials

Transaction Execution
  • Play a key role in the development of internal underwriting memo/credit applications and valuation materials for strategic transactions (acquisition financings, spin/split-off financing, M&A advisory, equity issuance), including financial analysis and transaction memoranda
  • Assist senior members in due diligence, including financial, business, industry, and legal
  • Take part in client meetings and discussions
  • Understand and take part in the legal documentation process
  • Assist in defining the transaction risks, mitigants and investment highlights in underwriting or participating in a financing
  • Liaise with credit and risk officers, legal and other transaction groups to underwrite the transaction

Profile required

Studies & experience:
  • Graduate with a Master’s degree from a Business/Engineering School or University
  • 0-1 years of relevant investment banking work experience (eg in leveraged finance, corporate finance, mergers & acquisitions, private equity, private debt, industry coverage) and/or a demonstrated interest in the field

Language skills:
  • Fluent in English

Operational, technical & soft skills:
  • Demonstrated interest in economics, finance, business and “how things work”
  • Logical mindset with demonstrated success in solving complex problems through analytical skills and creativity
  • Knowledge of financial accounting concepts and corporate finance
  • Interest in understanding corporate equity and credit “stories” and priorities of key stakeholders
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word
  • Financial modeling (DCF, LBO), including experience building three-statement models, detailed operating builds and capital structure scenarios, accretion / dilution, etc.
  • Knowledge of capital raising, credit, due diligence, running internal deal / approval processes; understanding of deal documentation, including public exchange filings, proxies, merger agreements, fairness opinions, credit agreements and indentures
  • Coding (eg. R, Python), statistics
  • Resourceful and curious self-starter; able to generate opinions and assist in idea generation
  • Team player with strong interpersonal skills and collaborative attitude
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills



The VIE assignment in a nutshell

This VIE in New York is to begin as soon as possible, but you need to plan 3 months between your application date and the beginning of your VIE assignment. It will last 18 months.

In case a visa is necessary, please make sure your passport is valid up to 6 months after the end of the VIE contract to not delay your departure.
