💼 Job Description
We are looking for a Network Engineering Intern to strengthen the systems deployed directly at our antennas — a set of servers and network devices installed on-site to receive, demodulate, and transport satellite data to the cloud.
You will work across connectivity, server operations, provisioning, and system security, helping us build reliable, scalable, next-generation ground network infrastructure.
Your responsibilities will include:
Improving connectivity: explore, benchmark, and enhance secure high-bandwidth links between our antenna sites and AWS (VPN, tunneling, WireGuard/IPSec, SD-WAN-style approaches).
Structuring rack operations: help organize how we track and manage servers, RF hardware, cables, and components, ensuring racks are well-documented, structured, and ready for production.
Provisioning systems: contribute to OS setup workflows (Linux systems, automation scripts), ensuring consistent and reliable deployments at each new antenna site.
Hardening infrastructure: apply modern security best practices (SSH policies, firewalling, audit baselines, user/access hygiene) to enhance the robustness of our on-prem systems.
Supporting operations: collaborate with senior engineers to improve installation workflows, runbooks, documentation, logging and monitoring of our systems.
This is a hands-on engineering internship where you will touch real hardware, real networks, and real satellite data — everything required to operate ground systems for space missions.
🎓 Qualifications
We’re looking for strong engineering students with solid technical fundamentals and the drive to learn quickly.
Required
Good mastery of Linux fundamentals such as system services, networking tools, permissions, SSH, logs).
Solid understanding of IP networking (routing, switching, TCP/IP, VLANs, MTU, NAT).
Knowledge of VPN technologies (WireGuard, IPSec, OpenVPN) and secure connectivity concepts.
Strong interest in distributed systems, connectivity, or infrastructure engineering.
Ability to script or code in Python, Bash, or Go.
Nice to have
Experience with hardware operations, rack installation, or cable management.
Exposure to automation / provisioning (cloud-init, Ansible, PXE-style workflows).
Familiarity with AWS or any cloud environment.
Basic interest in satcom, RF, or space protocols (we’ll teach you!).
Interest in asset tracking, BOM tools (Inventree), or operational workflows.
📚 Learning Opportunities
Joining Skynopy means learning at the heart of a fast-growing space startup, working with real systems supporting real satellites.
Work with four senior engineers on next-generation connectivity for space infrastructure.
You’ll learn how to design, secure, and deploy high-bandwidth links and production-grade on-prem systems — skills which are very valuable in the infra/cloud world.
You’ll be exposed to satellite communications protocols, data flows, and operational constraints that very few engineers ever see. This experience gives you insight into how space assets communicate with Earth and how satcom infrastructure is built.
Operate and structure physical racks, servers, and networking gear, gaining hands-on experience with on-prem infrastructure — a foundational skill for any network, DevOps, or SRE career. You’ll see how hardware, cloud, and operations come together to deliver a live service to satellites in orbit.
