Job Summary:
The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing day-to-day accounting operations while ensuring compliance with U.S. GAAP, IFRS, internal controls, and applicable regulatory requirements. This role leads the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes; supervises accounting staff; supports internal and external audits; and partners cross-functionally to ensure accurate program cost accounting, indirect rate management, and timely financial reporting.
The position plays a critical role in supporting aerospace and manufacturing operations by providing strong financial oversight, improving cost visibility, and ensuring compliance in a regulated, multi-program environment.
Essential Job Functions:
Accounting Operations & Close
• Manage and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close activities.
• Ensure timely and accurate preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statements.
• Oversee general ledger, fixed assets, inventory accounting, and cost accounting activities.
• Review revenue recognition in accordance with ASC 606 for long-term and contract-based programs.
Aerospace / Cost Accounting
• Support job cost accounting, work-in-process (WIP), and program margin analysis.
• Maintain and monitor indirect cost pools and allocation bases (overhead, G&A, fringe).
• Support the development, monitoring, and variance analysis of forward pricing rates and actual rates.
• Ensure compliance with FAR/DFARS and Cost Accounting Standards (CAS), as applicable.
• Partner with Program Management and Operations to resolve cost issues and improve cost transparency.
Compliance, Controls & Audit
• Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP, IFRS, internal policies, and government contracting requirements.
• Support DCAA audits, external financial audits, and internal audits.
• Maintain and enhance internal controls over financial reporting.
• Prepare audit schedules and respond to auditor inquiries in a timely and accurate manner.
Leadership & Collaboration
• Manage, mentor, and develop accounting staff, including performance management and professional development.
• Coordinate cross-functionally with FP&A, Supply Chain, Operations, and Program Management teams.
• Identify and implement opportunities to improve accounting processes, systems, and internal controls.
• Support the Controller with special projects, system implementations, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Other duties may be assigned as required.
Required Competencies:
Education/Experience:
• Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance required.
• Minimum 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within aerospace, defense, or manufacturing environments.
• 3+ years of people management or team leadership experience.
• Strong working knowledge of U.S. GAAP, IFRS, and cost accounting principles.
• Experience with ERP systems; SAP preferred.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
Preferred Qualifications:
• CPA or CMA certification.
• Experience with government contracts, FAR/DFARS, and CAS.
• Prior exposure to DCAA audits.
• Experience in a multi-program, project-based manufacturing environment.
