The position

Job description

ORIS Materials Intelligence is the first platform which connects digital and construction materials with the aim to design more sustainable infrastructure (roads, rails) and transform the sector. As a Data Engineer in Social & Economic impacts of climate change, you will be responsible for conducting research on the social and economic impacts of climate change on infrastructure networks, and participate in the development of innovative solutions for infrastructures. You will be involved in improving our climate offers methodology, developing new social and economic indicators and building data pipelines. You will have the opportunity to work in a fast-paced and multi-cultural environment, embracing agile principles and utilizing the kanban framework.
This is a six months internship, with ORIS offices conveniently situated near Lyon’s Part Dieu train station, English as our working language and a fantastic team to work alongside!

Economics skills & Data engineering

  • Explore and use datasets related to economic and social aspects in relation to infrastructures and climate change

  • Analyze data to identify trends and patterns related to climate change impacts.

  • Contribute to building new key indicators for social and economic impacts integrated with our infrastructure assessment offerings

  • Assist in developing reports, presentations, and other communication materials.

  • Develop models to estimate traffic trends in future scenarios

  • Extend existing data pipelines in Python to gather data from various sources, clean and analyze datasets

  • Use Deep learning and Generative AI models to provide valuable solutions

Collaboration & Documentation

  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including project management, engineering, sales and product teams

  • Document all technical and expert processes

  • Prepare reports and presentations on the economics and social impacts and the effectiveness of proposed mitigation and adaptation measures.


Preferred experience

EXPERTISE & SKILLS

Required:

  • Knowledge about Economy for industry

  • Knowledge about statistical analysis and econometrics to evaluate social impacts of climate change

  • Proficiency in Python or R

  • Familiarity with database systems (relational and NoSQL) like PostgreSQL

  • Familiarity using Jupyter Notebooks

Nice to have

  • Knowledge about climate and weather related data sources such as CMIP6, Copernicus, ERA5

  • Knowledge in infrastructures

  • Knowledge in QGIS

  • Familiarity using agile development methodologies (Kanban or SCRUM)

  • Familiarity with AWS services

  • Familiarity using API endpoints

  • Familiarity with GitLab CI/CD pipelines

Important Soft Skills

  • Good communication skills for collaborating with developers and effectively conveying technical concepts and discussing business requirements with non-technical colleagues

  • Ability to prioritize tasks to ensure efficient project execution

  • Willingness to learn new tools and technologies as they emerge

  • Skilled in fostering a positive and collaborative team environment

  • Strong organizational skills to keep track of multiple tasks and ensure smooth coordination with developers

  • Capacity to handle project documentation and ensure its accuracy and completeness.

EDUCATION

  • Currently enrolled in a second year master’s degree program, such as Economy, Environmental Science, Civil Engineering, Climate Science, or a related field.
