The Level Design team is tasked with creating a deep, exciting and accessible experience of Dual Universe for the players, in collaboration with the Art and Game Design teams. As a Level Design Scripter, you will create “challenges” (aka missions) and tutorials using Novaquark’s in-house Lua scripting system.

This role is based in our Montreal office (with remote work during the pandemic) and reports to the Lead Level Designer, an industry veteran who has experience in supervising and growing LD teams for major titles.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Implement and improve the user experience and the on-boarding of players;
• Design and implement challenges and tutorials (both for beginners and advanced players) to make the game’s many features accessible to a wide range of players;
• Design and integrate quests that support player activities and the lore of the game;
• Assist the leads and Marketing team in creating content to test and showcase the game;
• Use and improve the tools used by the Development team and the ones provided to the players.

REQUIREMENTS

We are primarily looking for candidates with a strong programming background who are able to handle scripting in Lua (75% of the tasks) and ideally can tinker with the client code in C++ (25%).
Candidates without the C++ skillset will also be considered as long as they are able to handle the scripting part.

• Solid work experience with text-based scripting languages or programming languages;
• University or college diploma (or equivalent experience/training) in level design, computer science or game design;
• Two to five years as a Level Designer or Programmer in a game/software development environment;
• Technical background (programming, scripting, technical design);
• Good knowledge in systemic design;
• Ability to multitask.
