Job Description

Are you passionate about helping aspiring automotive technicians learn and get started in their career? We are seeking a qualified Technical Training Instructor to support a premium Automotive OEM at the OEM training facility. The primary purpose of this role is the training of dealership apprentice technicians in the diagnostic strategies and proper repair of vehicle systems by facilitating service technical training classes at the Regional Training Center. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with enthusiasm for instilling excitement, coaching and mentoring, and improving the diagnostic capabilities of technicians who are just beginning their career in the automotive industry. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Facilitate engaging and effective training workshops for dealership apprentice technicians, with the goal of obtaining their initial OEM certification.  .
  • Guide, inspire, and provide mentorship for  new technicians who are navigating the beginning of their career.
  • Ensure curriculum is delivered consistently with quality across the Technical Trainer team.
  • Prepare apprentices for working life in a dealership through developing teamwork, communication, and time management.
  • Assess the knowledge and skills proficiency of apprentice technicians; recognize learning gaps; identify and implement performance improvement strategies.
  • Document apprentice progress throughout the program.
  • Communicate with retailers regarding apprentice progress and placement, as required.
  • Prepare workshops and vehicles for experiential learning.
  • Ensure Regional Training Facility, tools, student guides, literature, vehicles, and training center are properly maintained.
  • Maintain attendee training records in learning portal.
  • Collaborate regularly with Corporate, Regional, and Dealership team members to accomplish Corporate, Regional, and training department goals.
  • Communicate with Client contacts as needed.
  • Coordinate with the Program Manager and Program Coordinator to address any local challenges related to housing or student participation.
  • Perform light to medium lifting requirements in repair shop operation management.
  • Assist Corporate Training staff in the development of technical training curriculum as required.
  • Continually enhance technical instructional facilitation skills, technical knowledge of vehicle systems, and diagnostic technology.
  • Comply with health and safety standards and maintain a safe work environment in the Training Center.
  • Maintain shop cleanliness and follow published 5S standards.
  • Maintain a professional relationship with customers and supplier personnel.
  • Maintain and use equipment in the workshop to operational standard.
  • Take reasonable precautions to protect company vehicles.

Preferred experience

  • 6 or more years of work experience in automotive technical repair and diagnostics, especially in a leadership role.
  • 3 or more years of work experience training OEM dealership technicians.
  • Knowledge and experience with electric vehicle technology a plus.
  • Ability to read, interpret and explain mechanical drawings and electrical schematics.
  • Experience preparing classrooms, workshops, and vehicles for learning.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (OneDrive, Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) a plus.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to travel and train at additional locations, as required.

EDUCATION

  • Must be fluent in English (additional foreign languages a plus).
  • Tech School, Automotive Certificate, Associates Degree or Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • Professional Certification (OEM Master Technician or ASE Master technician).
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
