Role Summary
As our Senior Compute Legal Counsel, under the responsibility of the General Counsel based in France, you will help define our Mistral Compute strategy, be instrumental in structuring, drafting, and negotiating our Mistral Compute deals, and act as product counsel for this new and exciting endeavour.
As part of this role you will advise the Mistral Compute business on related legal topics (working hand-in-hand with other members of the Mistral AI legal teams), including legal and regulatory compliance, procurement, intellectual property, insurance, financing, privacy, public policy, export control, tax, accounting, corporate structure, and customer support.
With our strategy to expand on compute and be an alternative to hyperscalers, you will have the charge of shaping legal strategy for our new business line. In this role, you will work closely with major providers such as NVIDIA, Dell, Coreweave, Microsoft, and Google, gaining invaluable exposure to industry leaders.
Key responsibilities
• Draft, negotiate, and provide strategic advice on contracts necessary for setting up, deploying, maintaining and commercializing our infrastructure and compute operations, including but not limited to, hardware, data center or other compute or cloud related contracts.
• Advise on other compliance or legal aspects related to the Mistral Compute business.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including other corporate functions (especially commercial-legal, procurement, and finance), and the technical and business Mistral compute teams.
• Help select and manage law firms on these matters as needed, while building our internal templates, practices and guidelines.
• Support on other related legal topics as needed, especially on the compliance front (e.g. OFAC and similar topics).
Qualifications and skills
• Bachelor degree or above (LLB, LLM, Juris Doctor preferred) from an accredited law school in Europe. Admission to practice law in at least another jurisdiction, in particular in the USA would be a plus.
• A minimum of 8-10 years of relevant legal experience, including a minimum of 4 in an international law firm, and an in-house experience in the technology space.
• Experience in structuring and negotiating infrastructure deals, in particular in cloud or compute related industries.
• Experience running critical legal projects with ability to anticipate the impact of one contract on the other as well as of one contract on the operations
• Knowledge of the regulatory constraints around cloud/ compute business
• Has experience scaling functions, teams or departments, and/or growing or scaling companies
• Sharp business acumen, honed through direct experience working within businesses—ideally across multiple industries—where you’ve delivered measurable impact
• Great negotiation skills, with a history of successfully leading critical discussions, balancing assertiveness with collaboration, and maintaining positive, long-term relationships with all stakeholders.
• Knowledge and usage of Artificial Intelligence: An understanding of artificial intelligence technologies, including machine learning, natural language processing and their applications is important.
• Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze complex cross border structuring questions, their interactions with financing topics, and to identify potential legal risks and solutions is important.
• Excellent written and verbal communication. Strong ability to communicate legal advice to clients and colleagues, and presenting complex legal concepts in a clear and understandable manner.
• Proactive, flexible, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• A strong understanding of ethical considerations related to AI, such as fairness, transparency, accountability, and bias mitigation, is important.
• An international experience is a plus.
