Job Description

Within the Center of Excellence Down Stream Process Design belonging to the Lesaffre Institute of Science & Technology, and directly attached to the Purification Process Team Manager, you are in charge of developing extraction and purification processes of compounds of interest at lab / pilot scale, along with the purification process team (8 persons), the center of excellence DSP design and more widely with other departments.

Your main missions will be focused on the design of new extraction and purification processes of compounds of interest from microorganisms, their scale-up at pilot scale and then support for industrialization phase.

As a Senior scientist, your responsibilities are:

  • To support team activities related to extraction and purification processes of compounds of interest from microorganisms.
  • To scout new disruptive technologies for products extraction and purification.
  • To lead projects or to participate as a team member. You will have responsibility of work packages, and you will have to drive and coach the technicians in the team to deliver in due course.
  • To assist other services on extraction / purification process developments. You oversee the most appropriate technologies and parameters to extract / purify products and to deliver reports of results.
  • To act as stakeholder on your fields of expertise for transversal projects (involving subsidiaries/BUs, other services) by managing and participating to projects and proposing innovative solutions.

You will have to travel to our plant sites across the world, and participate to conferences, and technical meetings. (Missions might be organized for consecutive weeks). (15-20 % time)


Preferred experience

You have : 

  • A PhD in bioprocesses, engineering degree in bioprocess or in chemical engineering related to food science or biotechnologies
  • A background and a proven work experience for more than 10 years (Food / Feed / Pharma / Biotech /Chemistry Production).
  • An experience with process development and modeling software such as ProSim, SuperPro Designer, or gPROMS would be a significant advantage.
  • A recognized experience in extraction / purification processes.
  • A good knowledge about biological industrial processes and microbiology would be a plus
  • A technical and scientific curiosity
  • A good communication, reporting and writing skills.

You are also :
