Job description

Help us use technology to make a big green dent in the universe!

Kraken powers some of the most innovative global developments in energy.

We’re a technology company focused on creating a smart, sustainable energy system. From optimising renewable generation, creating a more intelligent grid and enabling utilities to provide excellent customer experiences, our operating system for energy is transforming the industry around the world in a way that benefits everyone.

It’s a really exciting time in energy. Help us make a real impact on shaping a better, more sustainable future.

Kraken Utilities

Our tech platform ‘Kraken’ is already licensed to support 55 million customer accounts globally, and we aim to serve 100 million by 2027. Kraken is the most AI-driven, innovative, forward-thinking platform for energy management. From optimising resources to delivering cost-effective, exceptional customer experiences through advanced Customer Information Systems (CIS), billing, meter data management, CRM, and AI-driven communications.

We’re now charging the Kraken platform to other utility industries (Water and Broadband) and have created a new team called - Kraken Utilities. Over the last 3 years we have built this team from scratch to re-architect, design, and develop our Kraken software platform to solve complex industry wide problems within the water and broadband sectors (such as customer experience & water leak detection).

The Kraken Utilities team is in a very exciting growth phase, and has already signed 5 clients; Severn Trent, Leep, Portsmouth Water, TalkTalk and Cuckoo. We are currently 120+ people (engineers, product, implementation, strategy) along with 1800+ people in the overall Kraken world.

About the Opportunity

Our Technology Team has grown extremely quickly as a result, tripling in size within the last 18 months. With this rapid growth, we are looking for proactive Product Managers to join our team and work with our developers, ensuring what they do has the highest impact for our customers.

Other organisations have product owners, project leads and scrum masters, but we like to be organic and self-organising, so you’ll gain experience doing all of the above.

You’ll need to be a self-starter: someone who sees a problem and can’t help but want to fix it! You’ll be well organised, working methodically and clearly to ensure projects go from inception to completion.

We put the customer first wherever we are in the business and work empathetically with one another to deliver the best possible outcomes.. We need someone able to work across multiple teams and ensure our developers are working optimally towards our unified goal.

What you'll do:

  • Liaise with tech, operations, strategy, our clients and others to identify new features in Kraken that need to be built, enhanced or fixed. You’ll spot problems, take ownership and see them through to resolution.
  • Understand the customer’s problem and identify the characteristics of a good solution. Document your findings so developers can hit the ground running and support them during a project.
  • Define and own your team’s roadmap, and help report on progress of features or projects within this.
  • Own the backlog of work to support development of our technology.
  • Keep track and prioritise what’s up next and what’s still to-do (we use Asana for this, so a familiarity of this tool helps).
  • Help customer teams that are working on front-line support to quickly resolve issues.
  • What you'll have:

  • Must have substantial product management experience in a B2B context (ideally enterprise software), and in a fast growing product company.
  • To be able to work in a dynamic and sometimes chaotic environment.
  • To be able to recognise what needs to be done and, just as importantly, what doesn’t need to be done right now.
  • You’ll have a track record of working with competing demands and making decisions to get critical work done.
  • To be a strategic thinker, always relating your decision making back to the overall goals of the team and the customer’s needs.
  • Experience in a fast-paced start-up or scale-up would be a plus.
  • To be willing to roll up your sleeves. For example, become expert at the Kraken CRM system and be able to rapidly triage issues that our customers face in day to day operations.
  • To be curious and a great listener - fantastic ideas come from everywhere in Kraken Technologies, so you’ll need to be able to spot and harness them.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and an ability to interact with people with varying levels of technical knowledge
  • Why you'll love it here:

  • Wondering what the salary for this role is? Just ask us! On a call with one of our recruiters it's something we always cover as we genuinely want to match your experience with the correct salary. The reason why we don't advertise is because we honestly have a degree of flexibility and would never want salary to be a reason why someone doesn't apply to Kraken - what's more important to us is finding the right Kraken-fit!
  • Kraken has an unique culture. An organisation where people learn, decide, and build quicker. Where people work with autonomy, alongside a wide range of amazing co-owners, on projects that break new ground. We want your hard work to be rewarded with perks you actually care about! Our Group CEO, Greg has recorded a podcast about our culture and how we empower our people

  • We will need someone who can come to our London office in Oxford Circus 2 days a week.

We're very excited to be growing our team. We're looking for skills and experience to help shape and define the future of not only our team, but the wider business at a global scale. If you're reading this and grinning, please apply! There are huge challenges to tackle, and we need amazing people who are keen to get stuck in.

Kraken is a certified Great Place to Work in France, Germany, Spain, Japan and Australia. In the UK we are one of the Best Workplaces on Glassdoor with a score of 4.7. Check out our Welcome to the Jungle site (FR/EN) to learn more about our teams and culture.

Whoever you are, if you like one of our jobs, we encourage you to apply as you might just be the candidate we hire. Across Kraken, we're looking for genuinely decent people who are honest and empathetic.
