Engineering Squad Lead - Cloud

(Hybrid/Kraków - 1 day per week in the office)

About the role

As an Engineering Squad Lead, you will be responsible for overseeing the squad’s day-to-day activities, ensuring clear priorities, smooth execution, and high-quality outcomes. You will foster effective ways of working, promote simplicity and efficiency, and help the team remove impediments to progress.

You will collaborate closely with Principal Engineers, architects, and stakeholders across the business to ensure alignment, support decision-making, and maintain consistent delivery standards. This role is ideal for someone who is an experienced team leader, strong communicator, and proactive facilitator, committed to continuous improvement and driving impactful results in a modern cloud-focused environment.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the line manager for the squad, planning and coordinating day-to-day work, building a cohesive team, and ensuring delivery of customer and engineering outcomes in partnership with product owners.
  • Drive continuous improvement of the squad’s effectiveness, impact, and ways of working, supported by Chapter practices and tooling, while maintaining strong eNPS results.
  • Provide coaching, feedback, and guidance to team members, supporting their development and reporting progress to domain leaders.
  • Communicate a clear vision for the squad, shaping its direction and impact while developing your own leadership capabilities.
  • Build strong collaborative relationships across banner and group teams, ensuring effective communication and alignment on people-related or quality matters.
  • Support performance management processes, including goal setting and objective reviews for chapter members.
  • Foster an inclusive, collaborative squad culture that enables the growth of high-performing, engaged, and diverse teams.
What you’ll bring
  • Strong technical understanding of cloud services and the requirements for operating them securely in production environments.
  • Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code practices and the ability to participate effectively in code reviews.
  • Experience with one or more major cloud providers.
  • Strong practical knowledge about containerization, Kubernetes and cloud implementations like EKS and GKS.
  • Solid appreciation of software development practices with a strong focus on quality.
  • Broad awareness of the technology landscape, industry trends, and emerging technologies, and their relevance to modern retail organisations.
  • Proven experience shaping, motivating, and driving change within large, complex, and fast-paced matrix environments.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the ability to communicate effectively and collaborate at all levels of the organisation.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making capabilities, able to navigate complexity and ambiguity to identify simple and effective solutions.
  • Demonstrated people leadership skills, including coaching, mentoring, facilitation, and talent development.
  • Excellent command of English (written and spoken)
