Job description
At Doctolib, data is mission-critical to simplifying access to healthcare and improving quality of care. As a Data Engineering Manager, you will work in the Data & AI Platform team. Data & AI Platform is our foundational engine to make Doctolib the best-in-class AI healthcare company in Europe, empowering our teams through a unified "AI Factory" and enabling external collaboration to become the central hub for research and digital health.
As a Data Engineering Manager, you will lead a team of Data Ops Engineers to build and operate reliable, secure, and scalable data platforms that power analytics, product decisioning, and machine learning across Doctolib
You will be accountable for the technical vision, delivery, and people development of your team, partnering closely with Product, Analytics, Data Science, Security, and Platform Engineering to enable trustworthy, compliant, and self-serve data at scale.
What you’ll do
- Lead, grow, and coach a team of Data Ops Engineers (hiring, performance, career paths, continuous feedback).
- Define the technical strategy and roadmap for data platform capabilities.
- Build and operate robust batch and real-time data pipelines with strong SLAs/SLOs, observability, lineage, and cost efficiency (FinOps).
- Establish high standards for data quality and governance: data contracts, testing, documentation, schemas, cataloging, and access controls.
- Enable product and AI/ML teams with reliable datasets and services (feature pipelines, event streams, metrics layers, experiment data).
- Drive best practices in data modeling (e.g., dimensional, wide tables, semantic layers) and transformation frameworks.
- Partner with Security/Legal to ensure privacy-by-design and compliance with EU regulations (GDPR, and health data requirements such as HDS in France): PII minimization, encryption, retention, and audit.
- Champion platform reliability: on-call readiness, incident response, postmortems, and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business needs into data products and measurable outcomes; plan and deliver via OKRs.
- Promote engineering excellence: code reviews, CI/CD for data, IaC, reproducibility, and developer productivity (AI tooling adoption)
Who you are
Before you read on — if you don't have the exact profile described below, but you feel this job description matches your skill set, we still encourage you to apply.
- Have strong analytical skills, are result-oriented, and user-first.
- Bring 8+ years of experience in data engineering and data ops, including 3+ years managing or tech-leading Data Engineers / Data Ops.
- Have proven experience operating large-scale data platforms in production (batch and streaming). Care deeply about data quality, lineage, observability, and cost control. Understand data governance, security, and privacy in regulated environments (e.g., GDPR).
- Are hands-on with SQL and Python, and familiar with modern data stacks (e.g., orchestration such as Airflow/Dagster; transformation framework such as dbt; streaming services such as Kafka/Kinesis; processing framework such as Spark).
- Have solid experience with cloud data warehouses/lakehouses (e.g., BigQuery, Snowflake, Redshift, or Databricks) and object storage.
Now, it would be fantastic if you:
- Have experience in healthcare, B2C marketplace, or other high-scale consumer products.
- Have driven data mesh/domain-oriented data ownership, or built self-serve data platforms.
- Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical partners; proficiency in French or German is a plus.
