The objective of this internship is to contribute to the initial development of this platform by supporting its operational structuring and the definition of its future service offering. The work will include identifying the technical capabilities of the platform, analyzing the available equipment, and contributing to the definition of services that could be offered to industrial and academic partners. The internship will also address safety aspects related to the manipulation of adhesives and surface preparation products. This includes identifying potential risks, contributing to the development of safety procedures, and preparing documentation to support the safe operation of the platform. The expected outcomes include a structured overview of the platform’s capabilities, a first proposal for its service offering, and initial operational and safety guidelines to support the launch and sustainable development of the platform.

Research Work

Scientific context

Adhesive bonding technologies are increasingly used in many industrial sectors such as automotive, aerospace, construction, and energy. Compared with traditional joining methods such as welding or mechanical fastening, adhesive bonding offers several advantages, including improved stress distribution, the possibility of joining dissimilar materials, and the potential for weight reduction in structural assemblies [1,2]. As a result, adhesive bonding has become an important enabling technology in modern engineering and manufacturing. However, the implementation of adhesive bonding processes remains complex. The reliability of bonded assemblies strongly depends on several factors, including surface preparation, adhesive selection, application methods, curing conditions, and environmental exposure. In addition, companies often face challenges when selecting appropriate bonding solutions or validating their manufacturing processes. These challenges highlight the need for technical expertise, experimental facilities, and testing capabilities dedicated to adhesive bonding. Technological platforms play an essential role in supporting innovation and technology transfer between research institutions and industrial partners. Such platforms provide access to specialized equipment, experimental infrastructure, and technical expertise that enable companies to develop, test, and validate bonding solutions under controlled conditions. They also support collaborative research projects and training activities related to materials and manufacturing processes. In this context, CESI is developing a technological platform dedicated to adhesive bonding [3,4]. The platform aims to provide a structured environment for research activities, industrial collaborations, and training programs related to the characterization and implementation of bonded assemblies. Establishing this platform requires defining its technical capabilities, structuring its operational framework, and preparing the services that will be offered to academic and industrial stakeholders.

Subject

The objective of this internship is to contribute to the initial development and structuring of a technological platform dedicated to adhesive bonding at CESI LINEACT. The work will focus on supporting the launch phase of the platform and on preparing the future service offering that will be proposed to academic and industrial partners. A first part of the work will consist in analyzing the current technical resources available within the platform. This includes identifying existing equipment, experimental capabilities, and potential activities related to adhesive bonding processes and the characterization of bonded assemblies. Based on this analysis, the intern will contribute to establishing a structured overview of the platform’s capabilities. Another important aspect of the internship will be the prefiguration of the service offering of the platform. This work will include identifying the types of services that could be proposed to external partners, such as support for bonding process development, testing and characterization of bonded assemblies, or technical expertise related to adhesive technologies. A benchmarking study of similar technological platforms will also be carried out in order to identify best practices and possible positioning strategies. The internship will also address operational and safety aspects associated with the activities of the platform. Adhesive bonding activities often involve the manipulation of chemical products such as adhesives, primers, or solvents, which require appropriate safety procedures and risk management practices. The intern will therefore contribute to identifying potential risks, reviewing existing safety documentation, and drafting initial operational and safety guidelines for the use of the platform. Overall, the internship aims to support the structuring of the technological platform by providing a clear overview of its capabilities, contributing to the definition of its future service offering, and preparing key operational and safety elements necessary for its effective deployment.

Work program
