Since 2014, AXA climate team has developed market-leading products to insure against climate risks. Clients range from individuals and corporations to governments and public institutions; they come from various weather-sensitive sectors across the world including agriculture, renewable energy, construction, transportation, leisure, and textiles.

 

Data scientists, meteorologists, business developers, and underwriters make up the parametric insurance team. Working closely together, they create innovative insurance products that meet clients’ needs.

 

Mission

AXA Climate is looking for an intern who will support the team in modeling climate hazards with a focus on hail over multiple geographical locations.

In addition to this modeling aspect, the intern will help the risk management team in their operational daily tasks.

Main roles and responsibilities

In partnership with the product team and the risk management team, the intern will:

  1. Contribute actively to scientific and technical developments
    <ul><li>Develop statistical models for weather risk (focus on hail storms)</li><li>Explore and test other sources of meteorologic data : radar, satellite, new providers…</li><li>Identify key issues surrounding high frequency weather events and propose solutions</li></ul></li><li>Help to the commercially development and support internal and external communication, e.g:</li></ol><ul><li>Evaluate and validate paternships with model and risk providers</li><li>Explain technical concepts and share modeling approaches with team</li><li>Prepare technical elements for meetings with stakeholders and clients</li></ul>

Preferred experience

Education:

-      Grandes Écoles d’Ingénieurs (e.g. ENSTA, X, CentraleSupélec, École des Ponts, Mines…)

-      MSc in top universities (Paris VI, Paris-Saclay, Imperial College, ETH Zurich, EPF Lausanne…)

 

Background:

-      Studies in Data Science, Statistic and Applied Mathematics.

-      Knowledges in meteorology, atmospheric dynamics, and/or weather analysis will be an advantage.

 

Language:

-      Conversational level in English required

-      Fluency in French desired

 

Required skills:

-      Strong scientific skills: statistics, probability

-      R or Python

-      Treatment of various data sets: reanalysis, satellite, radar, etc.

-      Strong autonomy

-      Integrity

-      Team spirit
