As Design Director, you will define and lead the artistic vision for one or several Animaj brands, with a primary focus on Pocoyo (our flagship brand) and Kidibli (secondary brand). This role blends strategic creative leadership with hands-on execution. You will ensure each brand’s visual identity is distinctive, consistent, and impactful across all platforms and touchpoints, working closely with internal teams and external partners, particularly in Spain, where Pocoyo has its strongest cultural roots.
Responsibilities
Artistic Vision and Brand Alignment:
Define and maintain a forward-thinking artistic vision that strengthens the positioning of each brand under your responsibility.
Establish and evolve brand guidelines reflecting each brand’s DNA, informed by audience insights and data.
Ensure adaptability across all touchpoints, including digital media (social, YouTube, music platforms), print, product design, style and trend guides, on-ground experiences, brand collaborations, websites, apps & games, and other marketing activations.
Team Leadership and Management:
Lead and mentor a creative team (minimum 2 direct reports across graphic design, motion design, video editing, and 3D).
Allocate resources effectively based on project needs and priorities.
Oversee creative processes from concept to delivery, ensuring quality, efficiency, and timely execution.
Manage complex, multi-stakeholder projects (including local agencies and cross-market campaigns).
Cross-Departmental Collaboration:
Partner with marketing, digital, sales, and other departments, as well as agencies and external experts, to deliver cohesive creative strategies.
Act as a key creative stakeholder, aligning artistic output with company objectives and campaign goals.
Work fluidly with Spanish-speaking partners and agencies, ensuring smooth communication and cultural relevance in all brand activations.
Outcomes
After 30 days at Animaj:
Understand the DNA of each brand under your scope: history, mission, vision, values, audience insights, competitive landscape, and creative strengths/weaknesses.
Identify creative gaps and opportunities to strengthen brand identity and impact.
After 90 days at Animaj:
After 6 months at Animaj
Proven experience as Design Director or similar leadership role within a creative agency or media company.
Strong portfolio demonstrating expertise across digital, print, and product design.
Mastery of design software and openness to exploring emerging tools (including AI) to enhance creativity.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with experience working across teams and geographies.
Strong project management skills, delivering high-quality output on time and within scope.
Demonstrated ability to link creative work to business impact, driving brand awareness and audience engagement.
Strong cultural affinity or experience with Spanish/LatAm markets; ability to understand and translate cultural insights into creative decisions.
Bonus but not a must: Proficiency in Spanish to collaborate effectively with local agencies and partners.
