About the job

As a Payment Foundation Expert, you'll play a key role in evolving and optimising Alma’s payment infrastructure. 

This is a role that lies at the intersection of technology and product, combining deep payment industry knowledge and strategic thinking to anticipate new technologies and usage in payments.

You'll be part of the Product and Engineering department and work closely with cross-functional teams comprising Product Managers and Engineers. In addition, you’ll have the opportunity to collaborate with key players in the payment ecosystem, such as Stripe, Adyen, and others, to deliver innovative solutions.

About the main responsibilities

The primary responsibilities of a Payment Foundation Expert include:

  • Act as a subject matter expert in payments, mentor people, and shape Alma’s payment product and engineering strategy
  • Monitor industry trends and translate insights into technical product opportunities
  • Track payment performance, identify failure points, and improve payment acceptance with partners
  • Lead the discovery of new PSPs and partner solutions to enhance Alma's payment capabilities
  • Evaluate the design of Alma’s core payment system, identify areas for improvement, and drive large-scale improvement initiatives
  • Work cross-functionally with other product teams or business departments to ensure alignment
  • Implement industry best practices to comply with regulations and improve security
  • Help investigate payment-related issues to ensure smooth operations

What makes you the perfect fit for the role?

  • Experience: minimum 10 years of relevant work experience (experience as an engineer or in a highly technical role before transitioning to product management), including at least 5 years of experience in payment, Fintech, or PSP, and preferably in a hyper growth context (internships & apprenticeships experience excluded)
  • Proficiency with API and high-level system design
  • Experience with payment gateways, acquiring, card schemes, and alternative payment methods
  • Familiarity with European and global payment regulations (i.e. PSD2, PCI-DSS, AML)
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively cross-organisation
  • Ability to influence business and how products are developed
  • Language: fluency in French and a good level in English are both mandatory
