You will be part of a team covering Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands for a global audience.
The Sydney reporter must be capable of producing fast, accurate and vivid copy on stories ranging from the climate crisis, drought and bush fires to political dramas, business, economics and sport.
The successful candidate will contribute to the fight against misinformation by helping factcheckers in the network and ensure they are trained in the various methods of online verification, now indispensable for all journalism. Online training is available here: AFP Digital Courses
In an ever-changing media environment, the nature of the job could evolve in line with coverage demands and the requirements of an increasingly diverse client base. All AFP journalists are required to adhere to company policies, including editorial guidelines.
Proven professional experience in written journalism, showing a flair for quick, accurate, lively copy and an eye for a good story.
Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines without compromising accuracy and quality.
Sound knowledge of Australian politics, culture, sports and economy.
Comfortable using and monitoring social media.
Team player.
Ready to work flexible hours when needed, including weekends.
These skills are not essential but would be an advantage: experience in wire agency reporting; video reporting/editing skills; French language and/or other languages.
This is a full-time job open to candidates eligible to work in Australia.
Please send a CV and cover letter by clicking on APPLY.
Only shortlisted applicants will be contacted for further steps in the recruitment process.
AFP is committed to equal opportunities and greater diversity within its teams. We therefore encourage all applications in order to preserve the wealth of profiles, cultures and languages that constitute the strength of our network.
