To scale our data foundations and support hyper-growth, we’re looking for a Lead Data Engineer to join our Paris office. You’ll be working closely with Tanguy (co-founder, Chief Data Officer) and Kevin (Data Scientist, PhD in Data). You will manage Marie (Analytics Engineer) and grow the team further by recruiting a Data Engineer.

Responsibilities

Data Platform Ownership

We built our data platform a year ago to centralize all data needs and empower every team at WeWard. Today, several terabytes of data are ingested, transformed, and made available to the business. But there’s still a lot to build, optimize, and maintain — and we need strong experience to take this project to the next level.

• Own WeWard’s data platform end-to-end, ensuring reliability, scalability, and accuracy across all pipelines (ETL/ELT).

• Design, develop, and maintain robust data pipelines while supervising the architecture of our Data Warehouse (BigQuery).

• Continuously expand and improve the platform by integrating and centralizing data from multiple sources (app, partner APIs, external providers).

• Implement monitoring, alerting, and cost-optimization strategies.

• Ensure full compliance with GDPR and industry standards.

Business Intelligence

Business teams rely heavily on weekly KPI monitoring, but many of these metrics are not yet automated. Your role is to transform this into a seamless process.

• Build dashboards tailored to each team’s needs, leveraging the data platform.

• Support the recruitment of a dedicated profile for governance

• Ensure visibility and accessibility of business-critical results via Metabase (or other BI tools).

• Put the power of data at the service of every team, enabling smarter and faster decisions.

Acquisition & Growth Analytics

User acquisition is one of WeWard’s biggest growth levers, with significant investments and optimization needs. Data is central to this effort.

• Ensure the reliability of event pipelines feeding acquisition algorithms.

• Collaborate with the Data Scientist on projection models and UA optimization.

• Provide visualization and decision-support tools to help guide marketing investments.

You master:

• Languages & Databases: Expertise in Python and SQL (PostgreSQL, BigQuery). Able to write clean, efficient, and production-ready code.

• ETL/ELT & Orchestration: Proven experience with modern data stack tools such as Airflow and DBT (or similar) to design and maintain scalable pipelines.

• Cloud Infrastructure: Solid knowledge of AWS and ideally GCP, including data storage, compute, and monitoring services.

• Data Warehousing: Deep understanding of BigQuery (or equivalent), with hands-on experience in optimization, partitioning, clustering, and cost management.

• Team Leadership: Experience managing or mentoring data teams, with the ability to grow, coach, and structure a high-performing team.

• Data Visualization & BI: Proficiency with BI tools such as Metabase, Looker, or Tableau to deliver automated dashboards, KPIs, and actionable insights to business teams.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Minimum 5 years, with significant experience in large-scale projects. You know how to support your team so that everyone can flourish in their core business by developing their skills, and to enable the best collaboration.
