Within the Group, you will join the Group Underwriting Office (GUO) in the Life, Savings and Health Underwriting department.
Within this Department, you will be part of the Medical Underwriting team reporting to the Chief Medical Officer.
The Senior Medical Underwriter is accountable for supporting day to day activities and leading (where needed) activities within the Group’s medical underwriting strategy for both protection and health. Providing advice, sharing technical expertise, training and guidance to AXA entities on medical and non-medical aspects consistent with AXA Group’s underwriting standards and philosophy.
In line with the objective to enhance AXA’s underwriting technical excellence and increase independence and inclusivity, together with the Group Medical Underwriting team the role requires the development and implementation of the Group Underwriting Guidelines on key strategic matters and medical conditions.
The role requires working closely with the other members of the Group Medical Underwriting Team to identify training opportunities and make recommendations to enhance technical excellence through various learning programmes and platforms.
Main focus areas:• Support and advise AXA entities, dealing with underwriting enquiries • Collaborate with the AXA entities to customise underwriting automated rules that conform to AXA’s underwriting standards and philosophy for both protection and health• Together with the Group Medical Underwriting Team take the lead in the development and implementation of AXA underwriting guidelines for protection and health that are consistent with AXA’s risk appetite/profile, standards and philosophy, ensuring they are based on sound underwriting principles and factoring in product pricing and market centric considerations• Support and lead implementation of automated underwriting solutions (rule-engines, AI supported solutions) in close collaboration with entities, Group operations and external providers• Conduct comprehensive review of AXA entities’ underwriting practices and provide accurate observations, concise and actionable recommendations• Conduct reviews of automated UW rules and develop improvements based on BI – dashboards and market feedabck• Provide a quality and prompt underwriting service to internal and external clients with the ability to communicate outcomes • Identify underwriting trends, training and developmental opportunities and lead workshops/training • Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with senior staff in AXA entities • Work on special projects as needed, taking the lead as the occasion arises• Organise and perform technical training at Group level and local entities on relevant underwriting topics• Maintain a current view of emerging and changing trends both medically and financially that impact risk selection within protection and health
• Minimum 6 to 8 years medical underwriting experience with expert knowledge on protection and health products• 5+ years in an underwriting development role• Experience in the development in UW rules for automated underwriting rules-engines. Experience in the implementation of UW systems. • Experience in the development of management information tools, i.e. real time dashboards• Expert knowledge and deep understanding of protection and health insurance risk evaluation and selection process • Advanced knowledge of insurance industry principles and practices including protection and health insurance operations, reinsurance practices, product, sales concepts, compliance and legal issues, claims and distribution, specifically those affecting underwriting guidelines and practices• Very good communication and presentation skills, including the ability to communicate findings, performance standards, and provide detailed feedback• Ability to work collaboratively and productively with underwriters, managers and other business units• Ability to analyse data and identify trends to provide a comprehensive analysis of patterns and training needs• Project management experience preferred
• Professional qualifications e.g. medical qualification or formal professional accreditation preferred• Team oriented and able to cooperate, provide constructive feedback to ideas and initiatives
