Job description

About Generare

Generare Bioscience is a Paris-based biotech company on a mission to unlock the 97% of microbial natural products that remain unexplored. We combine computational biology, synthetic biology, and high-throughput fermentation to discover novel bioactive molecules for pharma, agriculture, and beyond.

Founded in 2022 as a spin-out from INSERM, we recently closed a €15M round led by Daphni and Alven. Our team of ~30 people operates from the heart of Paris at the Cochin campus, building one of the fastest-growing natural product libraries in the world.

We have already cloned thousands of biosynthetic gene clusters and produced hundreds of novel extracts, scaling rapidly toward an ambitious annual target. Our platform is revealing new chemical scaffolds and modes of action at an unprecedented pace.

The Role

We are looking for a hands-on and rigorous Fermentation Production Technician to join our Production team, led by Nadège Guinot.

This is a core operational role. You will be responsible for running, maintaining, and scaling Generare’s extract production pipeline, the foundation of our entire discovery engine.

Every week, you will cultivate hundreds of engineered microbial strains, manage fermentation workflows from inoculation to extraction, and ensure the steady, high-quality production of natural product extracts. You will interact daily with colleagues from molecular biology, analytical chemistry, and bioassay to keep the pipeline flowing. This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a structured yet fast-paced lab environment and takes pride in reliable, high-throughput execution.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform daily fermentation operations: prepare media, inoculate strains, monitor growth, harvest cultures, and process extracts according to established protocols.

• Operate and maintain fermentation equipment (shaking incubators, autoclaves, laminar flow hoods, centrifuges) and ensure proper functioning and calibration.

• Manage the extract library: catalogue, store, and track samples with rigorous documentation and traceability.

• Contribute to the optimization of fermentation conditions (media composition, temperature, duration, expression hosts) to improve yields and expand the diversity of the extract collection.

• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment following good laboratory practices.

• Coordinate with the molecular biology team to schedule strain availability and prioritize production batches.

• Document all work clearly in electronic lab notebooks and internal databases, contributing to quality and reproducibility.

• Participate in scale-up experiments when required, working with the scale-up project lead on process transfer.

What We Offer

• A permanent position (CDI) in a fast-growing, well-funded biotech startup with a clear scientific mission.

• A collaborative, multidisciplinary environment where your work directly fuels the discovery pipeline.

• Real opportunities for growth and increased responsibility as the team and platform scale.

• Competitive salary, meal vouchers (tickets restaurant), sustainable mobility allowance (forfait mobilité durable), and 10 RTT days.

• A lab in the heart of Paris at the Cochin campus, with state-of-the-art equipment and a team passionate about what they do.

Preferred experience

Required

• BTS, DUT, Licence Professionnelle, Bachelor’s, or Master’s degree in microbiology, biotechnology, biochemistry, or a related field.

• At least 2 years of hands-on experience in microbial fermentation, ideally in an industrial or high-throughput research setting.

• Strong practical skills in aseptic techniques, bacterial and/or fungal culture, and standard microbiology lab equipment.

• Rigorous, organized, and comfortable with repetitive yet precision-critical workflows.

• Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

• Good written and oral communication in French; working English is appreciated.

Nice to Have

• Experience with microbial hosts for natural product production.

• Familiarity with extraction and sample preparation workflows (liquid-liquid extraction, SPE, lyophilization).

• Experience with LIMS, ELN, or sample tracking databases.

Recruitment process

  1. Short screening call with the People team.

  2. Technical interview with Nadège Guinot (Production Lead) and a team member.

  3. On-site visit and practical assessment at our Cochin lab.

  4. Final conversation with Guillaume Vandenesch (CEO).
