ABOUT DESCARTES UNDERWRITING

Descartes was born out of the conviction that the ever-increasing complexity of risks faced by corporations, governments and vulnerable communities calls for a renewed approach in insurance. Our team brings together industry veterans from the most renowned institutions (AXA, SCOR, Swiss Re, Marsh, Aon, ...) and scientists on top of their field to bring underwriting excellence. After 6 years of existence, Descartes has secured a leading position in parametric insurance for weather and climate-related risks utilizing machine learning, real-time monitoring from satellite imagery & IoT. After a successful Series B raise of $120M USD, we launched Descartes Insurance, a 'full stack' insurer licensed to underwrite risk by the French regulator ACPR. With a growing corporate client base (400+ and counting), our diverse team is headquartered in Paris and operates out of our 19 global offices in North America, Europe, Australia, Singapore and Japan. Descartes is trusted by a panel of A-rated (re)insurers to carry out its activities.

ABOUT YOUR ROLE

While Descartes has achieved major milestones since its inception (member of the Next40, one of the largest Series B in the InsurTech Space, international footprint and has been growing at a very fast pace, a new team called the CIO (Chief Insurance Officer) Office was created to support underwriting and commercial activities. As a Business Associate, you will join this team to help strengthen and expand Descartes’ commercial activities. You will report to the Chief of Staff and will be in close and effective cooperation with all business units. You will play a vital role in the following activities:

  • Carry out commercial initiatives to support the growth of Descartes’ portfolio across various geographies, including the US, South America, EMEA, Asia-Pacific;
  • Plan project management, including setting deadlines, prioritizing tasks and assigning team members to various deliverables while upholding the company’s standards;
  • Support the implementation of sales monitoring and evaluation tools;
  • Actively support the Chief of Staff & and the CIO in following the execution of Descartes’ business plan;
  • Evaluate the efficiency of Descartes’ insurance solutions and prepare action plans accordingly;
  • Foster collaboration across Descartes’ various commercial hubs by promoting knowledge sharing, best practice dissemination, and cross-regional initiatives;
  • Gather and disseminate market intelligence to inform business decision-making;
  • Coordinate marketing actions with the Commercial and Marketing teams.

    ABOUT YOU

    EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Complete a master’s degree from a leading Business or Engineering school;
  • 2-5 years’ relevant work experience in consulting, business, or finance;
  • Clear track record of working in a fast-paced environment;
  • Experience in the (re)insurance industry is a plus.

  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage projects from start to finish;
  • High level of autonomy, including the ability to initiate tasks independently;
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to adjust your style to suit various perspectives and levels of seniority;
  • Ability to take rational decisions based on data, facts, and logical reasoning;
  • High level of rigor and attention to detail;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google applications;
  • Proficiency in English;
  • Fluency in French is a plus.
