Editorial Board

Contexte

The editorial team at Contexte is committed to producing political information that is independent, rigorous, structured, and accessible. The goal is to empower public policy professionals to take action.

Our objective is to deliver expert, granular, and well-organised information. It's in-depth reporting that is focused on utility rather than influence. This is provided through clear briefings, precise analysis, and relevant tracking tools—all designed to be useful both immediately and in the long term.

Within a close-knit editorial team, our shared values combine high standards with kindness, autonomy, trust, and a clear collective framework.

Our ambition is to be both a demanding editorial product and a technological product, all designed to better serve democracy.

Meet Clémentine, Managing Editor - Contexte

Meet Clémentine, Managing Editor

A journalist should report on and analyse facts, not explain what they think about them. With this conviction as my compass, I have spent the last 12 years developing the publication as the co-founder and editorial director of Contexte.

I hold a Master's degree in civil law, am a graduate of the French Press Institute, and have a postgraduate diploma in European journalism. I am also a member of the European Young Leaders network.

As a journalist specialising in European affairs, I began my career in Brussels, where I became convinced that in-depth political journalism requires a detailed understanding of both the legal texts and the people who truly hold power.

Meet Jean-Sébastien, Editor in Chief - Contexte

Meet Jean-Sébastien, Editor in Chief

I have been covering European politics for over fifteen years.

I joined Contexte in 2013 to help set it up. I then opened the newspaper’s Brussels office, serving as its first EU correspondent for the Digital and Power sections. Since then, I have worked on developing the European section of the editorial team, which has gradually expanded.

In 2022, I became the newspaper’s Brussels editor-in-chief. In 2023, I began working on the development of new English-language editions aimed at a European audience. This led to the launch of Energy in 2025 and Power in 2026.

I am Managing Editor of the European Policy division and help drive Contexte’s international expansion.

Over the past 12 years, I have covered European politics in Brussels, focusing on energy and climate issues. During this time, I have not only learnt the intricacies of how the EU works, but also how to identify and translate technical issues into high-stakes articles with implications at European and international levels.

I joined Contexte's Energy edition in Paris in March 2022, following an internship in the 'Pouvoirs' (Politics) edition and a period of freelance work.

After attending the College of Europe in Warsaw from 2019-2020, I also earned a Master's degree in European Studies from the University Sorbonne Nouvelle.

During an advocacy internship with the NGO Transparency International France, I worked on their campaign for the 2019 European elections.

Prior to that, I worked on the programmes Avenue de l'Europe and Drôle d'Europe at France Télévisions.

A graduate of the College of Europe in Bruges with a Master’s degree in “European Governance and Politics”, I also hold a double Master’s degree in Political Communication from Sciences Po Rennes and Celsa (Paris IV Sorbonne).

Rencontrez Afonso, Account Executive

Based in Brussels but born in Lisbon, I thrive where strategic intelligence meets the front lines of policy. My career is defined by a truly global trajectory - having lived in Prague and driven results with teams in Washington D.C., London, Singapore, and Paris.

I have specialized in translating geopolitical and security intelligence into actionable commercial strategies, with a current focus on navigating the complexities of EU policy and regulation.

Marketing

Contexte

The team works to build brand awareness and drive growth for the publication in France and Europe. In close collaboration with the sales, product, and editorial teams, they design initiatives that promote our offering and brand around a single promise: in-depth information.

Split into four complementary areas—Brand, Product Marketing, Growth, and RevOps—the team increases Contexte's visibility and brand recognition, defines product positioning, identifies the target audience, and determines when and how to reach them. They implement campaigns to encourage product adoption and use, and develop acquisition and retention strategies that ensure the company's growth.

Their main goal is to establish Contexte as the leading European publication for public affairs.

Product

Contexte

The Product team's role is to optimise the user experience and commercial value. They define and implement the product strategy, prioritise development, and ensure alignment with our editorial and business goals.

Contexte is an organisation with a strong product culture. This means we place the user experience at the heart of our design choices, and Product Managers are responsible for building their own roadmaps based on semi-annual or annual strategic objectives.

Human Resources

Contexte

The mission of the HR team at Contexte is to create and maintain a clear, fair, and inspiring environment that allows everyone to excel in their role while contributing to a strong, committed company culture.

We act as both a facilitator and a support system, serving our employees and collective performance by anticipating needs and guiding the company's transformation.
