About Ed.ai

Ed.ai is an AI teaching assistant that transforms how teachers grade, track, remediate, and support their students day to day. Teachers snap a photo of handwritten student work, and Ed.ai handles the rest: our computer vision grades it instantly, maps each student's gaps, and generates personalized remediation activities — all in minutes, not hours.

Founded in France by the creator of LeLivreScolaire.fr (the 3rd-largest French textbook publisher, acquired by Hachette Livre), Ed.ai already serves thousands of teachers across 200+ schools in France and in the US, and we're scaling fast in both markets.

We’re looking for our second designer to help us build a product teachers use every day — from the core grading experience to the tools they use to understand student needs and prepare what comes next.

The Role

You'll join Ed.ai as our Product & Brand Designer, working hand-in-hand with Mathilde Serra, our Founding Designer. Mathilde built everything you see today — the product platform, our mascot Ed, our communication assets, our print materials, the whole visual system. You're not starting from a blank page: you're joining a designer who has already defined the craft, and your job is to help scale it across the product and every surface where Ed.ai appears.

This is a hands-on, end-to-end design role. You'll move from product thinking to pixel-perfect UI, and from UI into the illustration and communication work that makes Ed.ai feel like Ed.ai. The role spans three areas, in this order of importance:

  1. Product (UX / UI)

  2. Communication assets

  3. Illustration

⚠️ This is not a UX-only role

We need someone who builds end to end. Strong UX thinking is necessary but not sufficient: you must be able to take an idea all the way to polished, production-ready UI — including the illustration work that goes with our branding. Applications from candidates positioned purely as UX designers will not be reviewed.

1. Product (UX / UI) — your primary focus

  • Design the Ed.ai product experience end to end: from problem framing and user flows to high-fidelity, production-ready UI.

  • Partner closely with Product and Engineering to ship — turning teacher needs into interfaces that feel obvious to use.

  • Grow and maintain the design system Mathilde started, so the product stays consistent as it scales across two markets (FR + US).

  • Bring a high bar for UI craft: spacing, type, motion, the details that make software feel trustworthy to teachers.

2. Communication assets

  • Design the assets that carry the brand: landing and marketing pages, social content, decks, campaign visuals, and print materials.

  • Keep everything on-brand and coherent across FR and US, extending the system rather than reinventing it each time.

  • Work alongside the marketing and content team to turn messages into visuals that convert.

3. Illustration

  • Produce illustrations that match the Ed.ai visual language — modern vector 2.5D, purple→blue gradient DNA, glossy finish, our mascot Ed.

  • Extend the illustration library across product, marketing, and social, keeping it consistent with the brand Mathilde defined.

  • Use illustration as a real design tool inside the UI, not just decoration — onboarding moments, empty states, feature highlights.

  • €45K – €70K base salary, based on our public compensation grid (scope + seniority). No negotiation theater — everyone sees the same grid.

  • Stock options (BSPCE).

  • Paris office, 4 days in-office / 1 day remote.

  • Budget for design and AI tools

  • Budget for books, events, and resources that sharpen your craft.

  • Direct work with the CEO and a real say in what Ed.ai becomes.

Profil recherché

Must-haves

  • End-to-end design capability. You take work from UX thinking through to polished, production-ready UI.

  • Strong UI craft. A portfolio that shows real interface design: type, spacing, hierarchy, consistency, the finished details.

  • Product mindset. You think about users and outcomes, work well with Product and Engineering, and ship.

  • Based in Paris (or willing to relocate). This role is 4 days in-office, 1 day remote.

  • Fit for autonomy. You're comfortable in an early-stage environment: owning your scope, iterating fast, and raising the bar without waiting for permission.

Strong pluses

  • Comfort with design systems and shipping inside one.

  • Illustration ability. You can create illustrations that fit a defined brand system (ours is vector 2.5D, purple-led, with a mascot)

  • EdTech or education experience, or genuine interest in the space.

  • Motion / micro-interaction skills.

  • A point of view on brand and communication design

Déroulement des entretiens

Step 1 — CV + portfolio review

Send us your CV and your portfolio. We want to see finished product UI and the brand/illustration work behind it. We read and look at every application.

Step 2 — CEO interview (30 min)

A conversation with our CEO about you, about Ed.ai, and about where the product and brand are headed — and you get to grill us too

Step 3 — Design exercise

A design exercise covering the different skills the role requires. Done remotely and sent back to us, then reviewed live with the CEO and Mathilde Serra.
