ABOUT THE JOB

Our Team

The Immunology and Inflammation Research Therapeutic Area in Sanofi is building a center of excellence on Immune Regulation and Autoimmune Diseases (AID) at the Vitry site and is seeking a Group Head to lead Immunology research activities within an immune tolerance and autoimmunity cluster.

The activities of this team will concentrate on the identification of novel therapeutic concepts in immune regulation and tolerance with the potential to lead to transformative treatments of autoimmune diseases. The team will encompass activities spanning from the identification of nodal targets and pathways that can be manipulated to intercept the pathogenic immune cells in AID, the exploration of innovative and disruptive modalities supporting transformative therapeutic development, as well as the development of translational assays for screening of the chemical and biological space.

Main responsibilities

The immunology research group head will

  • Lead an Immunology research team to develop differentiated and high value projects and manage research programs in the emerging area of immune tolerance, immune regulation and autoimmunity
  • Maintain strategic focus across multiple complex drug discovery programs in prioritizing resource allocation and drive decisions consistent with Cluster, TA and corporate goals
  • Provide expertise in Immunology necessary for the identification of the best targets and disruptive therapeutic approaches in this space and lead their advancement through Sanofi governance
  • Lead, motivate and train a laboratory team, including principal/senior scientists and technicians dedicated to the identification and modulation of nodal targets and pathways of relevance to tolerance
  • Develop novel in vitro/ex-vivo approaches to support portfolio programs in close collaboration with other group heads and the Cluster Head
  • Provide strong scientific and technical leadership in the design and execution of a broad range of complex immune tolerance assays to elucidate mechanism of action and understand disease biology
  • Create and maintain a work environment in which scientific excellence and innovation in immunology are fostered
  • Enable productivity, execution with a sense of urgency, teamwork, accountability, scientific rigor and excellence
  • Develop collaborations with key opinion leaders and external research centers in Immunology
  • Work collaboratively with other Teams within and outside of the immune tolerance cluster
  • Provide expertise as an ad hoc member in appropriate governance committees and advisory boards

ABOUT YOU

Skills that you have (mandatory)

  • Experience: Significant experience in industry and/or academic research in Immunology and Drug Discovery with demonstrated achievement of key development milestones. Experience in bringing molecules into development. Experience in Inflammation and Immunology and in cellular and molecular systems of relevance to immune regulation, antigen specific tolerance and autoimmune diseases. Strong track record of building and managing relationships and collaborations with CROs, academic groups, industrial partners, and research consortia in support of company objectives. Proven ability to lead multi-disciplinary project teams and proven record of successfully delivering small molecule and/or biologics programs from discovery to early clinical development. Significant experience in leading and coordinating teams including senior profiles
  • Soft skills: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills: impactful oral and written communication. Proficient negotiation skills and capacity to interact with people at different levels in the organization. Experienced leader that exercises foresight and judgement in planning, organizing and guiding complex projects. Track record of successfully applying high- level scientific judgement in a variety of complex situations. Fast learner, flexibility to rapidly change priorities and deadlines and ability to lead others through change in a dynamic, fast paced industry and work environment
  • Technical skills: Recognized scientific expertise as evidenced by inventorship, and strong publication record in peer reviewed journals. Cellular immunology, immunological assays such as Treg-mediated suppressive assays, pharmacological profiling of compounds, biomarker identification. Leading knowledge of adaptive or innate immunity and relevant experience in the immunology and inflammation disease areas. Track record of scientific publications, presentations and patents as scientific contributor or senior author
  • Education: PhD-level in Immunology, Cellular immunologist with strong expertise in research experience in the biopharmaceutical industry
  • Languages: English, (French desirable)
