About Pasqal

PASQAL designs and develops Quantum Processing Units (QPUs) and associated software tools.
Our innovative technology enables us to address use cases that are currently beyond the reach of the most powerful supercomputers; these cases can concern industrial application challenges as well as fundamental science needs.
In addition to the exceptional computing power they provide, QPUs are highly energy efficient and will contribute to a significant reduction in the carbon footprint of the HPC industry. 


 Job Description

As the VP of the Software Platform department of PASQAL, you will lead the development of all software services making Pasqal’s Quantum Computing Units (QPUs) and programming libraries available for internal and external users. The department is currently composed of five teams.

Your missions and responsibilities will include: 

  • Help define and support the department vision and roadmap, in collaboration with product and other engineering leads, according to the company objectives. Communicate those objectives with the Software Platform department and follow-up on execution.
  • With the help of senior engineers, define the technical roadmap (tech debt and technical improvements) and ensure its execution.
  • Prioritize main product, tech debt and infrastructure initiatives across teams. Keep the teams focused on priorities and deliver on time and with quality.
  • Define, monitor and report regularly on functional, performance and quality KPIs. Find mitigations if some milestones are at risk.
  • Collaboration with engineering managers and product owners to set up efficient agile processes (sprints, retros... ).
  • Work with product and support to build processes ensuring a smooth user experience (frequent and well-planned feature releases, on-calls for prompt incident response).
  • Coordinate collaboration and ease communication between teams and departments, to support cross-functional initiatives.
  • Identify major technical risks, proactively trigger technical deep dives when needed and make sure decisions are rational and documented. If needed, review major architecture and functional code changes.
  • With the help of QA, promote quality practices along all the product development, including post mortems.
  • Help define the hiring plan and yearly budget for the department.
  • Take responsibility for the hiring process in collaboration with Talent Acquisition and HR teams (interview process, resume assessment, candidate interviews).
  • Conduct regular 1:1 (gathering peer feedback) and performance reviews. Define objectives and help managees reach them.
  • Responsible of Engineering Managers' and a few Senior / Staff individual contributors' management (day to day, career developement, support).
  • Promote positive team spirit and handle conflicts when necessary.
  • Evangelise on the company vision and strategy to the team (“align down”), gather feedback from the team and “challenge up” if needed.
  • Communicate about the department activities and initiatives company-wide.
  • Lead by example and support teams with less impactful tasks.
  • Keep a regular technological watch. 
  • Support an inventive activity in the scientific and technical fields related to the Company's research, products, technologies and markets; fill patents. 


About you


Technical skills :

  • Professional experience leading a team of 15+ software engineers.
  • Experience working in deep-tech.
  • 8+ years of experience in the implementation and deployment of cloud-based product and/or on-prem software.
