As a fully owned subsidiary of Safran Electronics & Defense, Safran Electronics & Defense Australasia Pty Ltd (SEDA) delivers and supports various products including high-performance optronics and inertial navigation equipment.

Headquartered in Sydney, SEDA brings local expertise in the integration of optronics and navigation systems for the air, land, and naval platforms of the Australian and New Zealand Defence Forces.

The Systems Engineer position is to work on the development and the integration of optronics and navigation systems for defence programs. The Systems Engineer participates in the specification, development, integration and verification of our defence activities.

In this role, you will be responsible for:

• Systems Engineering: ensures that all systems engineering activities align with project specifications and customer expectations. Develop and review system specifications, ensuring clarity, uniqueness, specificity, measurability, and verifiability. Prepare detailed interface documentation and technical papers related to the project.
• Engineering Oversight: Oversee the engineering activities for the project allocated by the Project Manager , with a particular focus on systems engineering requirements, integration, and validation.
• EMS Compliance: Ensure the Engineering Management Systems procedures are rigorously followed to deliver engineering services that meet the highest standards and quality.
• Customer & Stakeholder Collaboration: Support systems engineering input for the customer, fostering effective communication and addressing inquiries specific to systems integration and technical alignment.
• Team Coordination: Work closely with cross-functional engineering teams to ensure systems engineering objectives are met and maintained throughout the project lifecycle.
• Configuration Management: Maintain clear configuration management for the Functional Baselines and Product Baseline throughout the project life cycle. Organise and chair the Change Control Board (CCB), manage Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs), deviations, and track product issues.
• Integration, Verification, and Validation (IV&V): Plan, execute, and manage verification activities, including Acceptance Test Plans (ATP), Acceptance Test Procedures (ATProcs), and Acceptance Test Reports (ATR).


To be successful in this role you must have :

• Tertiary qualification in Engineering or related field.
• Prior experience in systems engineering, ideally within the Defence, aerospace, or a related technical industry.
• Strong foundation in systems engineering principles, with experience in requirements management, validation, and integration.
• Familiarity with engineering management systems and procedural compliance, specifically in systems engineering contexts.
• Good organizational skills, with the ability to manage technical requirements and ensure their integration across multiple project areas.
• Australian Citizenship is desirable
