Descripción del puesto

We are seeking a creative and driven Research Scientist, Phage Evolution to lead our company’s efforts in phage training and directed evolution. This is a pivotal role that blends hands-on R&D with team leadership. You will be responsible for both the routine, operational adaptation of our phages for field application and the exploratory R&D to develop next-generation phage training methods. You will lead a small, dedicated team and be the company’s internal expert on enhancing phage efficacy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead phage training: Design, manage, and execute directed evolution experiments to improve key phage characteristics (e.g., host range, lytic activity, resistance to bacterial defenses).

  • Method development (R&D): Actively research, develop, validate, and implement novel, high-throughput methodologies for phage training and adaptation.

  • Team leadership: Lead, mentor, and manage a small team of 1-2 research associates, overseeing their day-to-day lab work and professional development.

  • Operational pipeline development: Design and implement the company’s first routine phage training pipeline in close collaboration with our lab operations team. This pipeline will be built to scale and continuously improve our biobank of high-priority phages.

  • Data & strategy: Meticulously analyze experimental data, maintain excellent records (ELN), and present findings to the wider team.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with the microbiology and downstream processing teams to ensure a seamless R&D pipeline from discovery to product.

Requisitos

  • PhD in Microbiology, Virology, Evolutionary biology, Molecular Biology or a related field. Post-doctoral experience is a strong asset.

  • Deep expertise: Demonstrable hands-on experience with bacteriophage biology is essential.

  • Technical mastery: Proven experience in designing and performing directed evolution (phage training) experiments.

  • Leadership potential: A strong desire to lead and mentor a team. Prior (formal or informal) management or mentorship experience is highly desirable.

  • Start-up mindset: You are proactive, adaptable, and thrive in a fast-paced environment where you can take ownership of your projects.

·       Excellent communicator: Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
