Our story starts in 1911, manufacturing cables to support the distribution of power generated from Niagara Falls, Nexans has proudly contributed to Canada's growth.  We have been involved in many of Canada's most ambitious projects; from dams, bridges, energy transmission and distribution to railroads and transportation. We are a vertically integrated manufacturer and our products are made at facilities located in Quebec, Ontario, and Saskatchewan.

As a Product Engineer, you will report directly to the Business DevelopmentDirector and functionally to the Director of Engineering PWR Grid&Connect NAM. This position will be dedicated to augment existing distributor ‘Market Push’ sales strategy with a EPC/End User ‘Market Pull’ approach requires local, commercially focused innovation capacity to engineer electrical solutions for future recurring in this higher margin segment.

GETTING TO KNOW THE POSITION 

One of the strategic orientations that Nexans pursues consists in capturing growth and differentiating its offer by escalading the value chain from the production of cables towards the provision of innovative cable systems and services and solutions to better address the current and future needs of our partners and customers.

The Product Engineer is a key individual contributor within the Business Development organization prioritizing near and medium term revenue generation through commercial engineering support. Primary responsibilities include low and medium voltage cable design within scope of existing industry approvals and providing technical support to project bids and specification development.

HOW YOU MAKE AN IMPACT

Provide Technical Support for Sales and Project Bids

  • Prepare accurate cable drawings, technical specifications, and documentation for proposal submissions.
  • Collaborate with Business Development to align technical solutions with client needs and project requirements.
  • Ensure all deliverables meet relevant standards and support competitive, compliant project bids.

Drive Client-Focused Engineering Solutions

  • Engage with clients, EPCs, and end users to define technical needs and recommend optimal cable solutions.
  • Support project specification development through direct technical consultation and interpretation of requirements.
  • Translate customer and market needs into actionable engineering inputs for design and costing.

Manage Engineering Documentation and Technical Expertise

  • Create and maintain accurate engineering documents including BOMs, performance specs, and costing.
  • Provide internal and external technical support, ensuring clear and timely communication.
  • Contribute to product optimization and portfolio expansion by identifying opportunities and supporting compliance efforts.

You will be expected to:

  • Increase in project sales revenue and CM%
  • Reduced time to quote for non-stock and project tenders
  • Increase capacity for portfolio expansion and optimization activities

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE ROLE ?

KEY COMPETENCIES

  • Strong engineering fundamentals (electrical / materials)
  • Engineering drawing using engineering software
  • Familiarity with Canadian, US, and Internation electrical standards and specifications
  • Verbal and written communication skills

REQUIREMENTS

  • Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechatronics) or Diploma in Engineering technology (Electrical)
  • Up to 5 years of relevant experience
  • English and French (preferred)
