We’re looking for a UK-qualified Commercial Counsel to join our Legal team and partner closely with our NORAM and UK-NE sales teams. You’ll be a key business partner for our teams, owning the negotiation of commercial contracts and helping build scalable legal processes that support Filigran’s growth.
You’ll also play a central role in shaping and driving Filigran’s privacy and AI compliance strategies, working with Product, Security, and leadership to turn regulatory requirements into pragmatic, business-enabling solutions.
You’ll work closely with the General Counsel and cross-functional teams (Sales, People, Finance, Security, Product) to enable the business while managing legal risk in a pragmatic, business-oriented way.
Partner with our NORAM and UK-NE sales teams to advise on and negotiate customer deals and contracts in an efficient, business-oriented manner.
Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial contracts, including SaaS and software agreements, SLAs, SOWs, NDAs, procurement agreements (service providers, software licences, sponsorships, events, marketing), data processing agreements, etc.
Help drive Filigran’s privacy and AI compliance strategies, partnering with Product, Security, and Engineering to improve processes, frameworks and internal guidelines (e.g., GDPR, UK GDPR, AI-related regulations).
Collaborate with the General Counsel on internal training workshops, legal operations strategy, guidelines and policy drafting, and other internal projects to build efficiencies and support internal teams.
Support our People team with regional employment-related questions and ad hoc contract reviews and negotiations.
Handle regional “housekeeping” matters, including IP portfolio management, insurance, corporate entity and M&A support as needed.
Coordinate, manage, and challenge outside counsel on various legal topics, including privacy and AI, ensuring high-quality and cost-effective advice.
Triage and address a broad range of legal and business issues while maintaining clear priorities and deadlines.
You will report to the General Counsel.
You will work closely with Sales (NORAM and UK-NE), People, Finance, Security, Product, and Marketing teams.
You’ll collaborate with external counsel in multiple jurisdictions and may mentor more junior team members or cross-functional colleagues on legal, privacy, and AI compliance processes and best practices.
Qualified lawyer in the UK.
5+ years’ combined experience at a law firm and in-house (minimum 2 years in-house) in a start-up/scale-up or technology company environment.
Strong commercial contracts expertise (you’re comfortable drafting and negotiating SaaS and technology agreements end-to-end), with solid knowledge and/or keen interest in several of: IT and IP law, commercial law, corporate law, employment law, privacy/data protection, and emerging AI regulation.
Demonstrated interest or experience in privacy and AI compliance (e.g., data protection frameworks, DPIAs, AI risk assessments, product counselling on data/AI features).
Highly organised and efficient, able to manage multiple matters independently, balancing rigour, attention to detail, and speed.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; you adapt your style to your audience and negotiate confidently.
Comfortable working in a remote, async-first environment and thriving in a culture of flexibility and accountability.
Strong interpersonal skills: low ego, high courage, direct and honest, and keen to build strong partnerships with stakeholders.
Tech-savvy and curious about new technologies (web applications, digital transformation, AI).
Fluent in English (written and spoken); French is a strong plus.
Bonus: Experience supporting international sales teams and/or working with SaaS businesses operating across Europe and North America, including on privacy and AI-related topics.
