Our take
Red Ventures was founded in 2000, shortly before the dot-com bubble burst. It survived the crash, however, and has grown into one of America's biggest digital media companies. Its brands include Lonely Planet, Healthline and TV Guide. The company was last valued at around $11 billion, which is evidence that its focus on momentum and adaptability has proven successful. Red Ventures is one of the major companies leading the shift towards intent-based media. It has acquired a range of specialist sites and publishing houses that serve the travel, tech and health sectors. Red Ventures has managed to successfully out-compete rivals by moving away from the more traditional direct sales approach. Instead, it has focused on guiding customers towards purchases on other sites, and then taking a commission. The company's agility and laser-sharp focus on advice and specialty subjects will prove invaluable in the years to come.
You'll be working on
- On top of strong end-to-end execution, technical fluency, and accountability for brand and experience standards, you’ll own:
- Consumer Vision & Strategy: Form a view of where the consumer experience should go, including how it advocates for the consumer, and argue for it. Make it concrete with concepts, principles, and prototypes teams can build toward
- Strategic Implementation: Make the high-level calls on how brand and consumer experiences are implemented, and lead large-scale projects solo or with other designers
- Research Coordination & Generative Discovery: Work with the Lead Consumer Researcher to decide what we research next, including generative discovery that looks past the current roadmap. Frame the questions, and make sure the findings change what gets built
- Agentic Systems Enablement: Build the systems that let designers and agents work well together. That includes the design system and UX copy system, plus everything around them: how they’re structured, documented, connected to code, and exposed to agentic tools. Design ownership is shared, so your job is the systems thinking: deciding where rules help and where they slow people down
- Cross-Functional Innovation: Drive consumer innovation and strategic initiatives that span functions. Find opportunities no single team owns, make the case, and work with product and engineering to get them started
- Mentorship & Design Org Capability: Mentor designers at every level through direct feedback, critique, and working next to them on hard problems. Raise what the whole team can do with workflows, tooling, standards, and skills others can adopt. Turn what works for you into something the team uses
Benefits
- Hybrid Schedule & Flexible PTO: Take advantage of 3-4 days in-office per week and 1-2 WFH days per week (varying by team), and a robust Paid Time Off program that includes logging off for “Winter Week.”
- Family Support, Planning, and Fertility: Our benefit offerings support every unique path to parenthood including fertility, egg freezing, adoption, surrogacy, parental bonding, and more.
- Mentorship Culture: Find a mentor, be a mentor, say yes to something new. This is a place where you’re guaranteed to build connections that extend past your immediate team and even your tenure at RV.
- Purpose & Community: We empower employees to make an impact for causes they care about, and we invest heavily in systemic impact through nonprofits like Road to Hire.
- World-Class Wellness: In addition to the on-site amenities at HQ, our unique wellness benefits include free therapy sessions and counseling for U.S. employees and family members.
We're looking for
- Consumer strategy: You’ve set a long-range consumer vision and can show what shipped because of it
- Systems experience: You’ve built or rebuilt a design system or similar shared system in production, and you’ve thought about how agents use it
- Craft judgment: You know where polish matters and where a rough answer is enough, accessibility included, and you can explain the tradeoff to others
- Fintech, startup, or advocacy background: You’ve worked in fintech, at a startup, or on consumer advocacy, and can help move our UX further toward the consumer’s side
- Technical fluency: You work in codebases, agentic tools, and component systems (shadCN, Tailwind, Next.js). You prototype in code, contribute in GitHub, and have a tested view on how agentic tooling changes what designers can build
- Research fluency: You’ve run or directed generative discovery and worked well with dedicated researchers. You can separate a finding from an opinion
- Org-level impact: Your portfolio shows design work that changed product strategy or how teams operate, across teams and not only within one
- Multiplier: People around you get better. You give direct feedback and earn trust with PMs, engineers, and designers who don’t report to you
