Job description
Reports to: Quality Assurance Lead
Our customers rely on Reality Defender to make high-stakes calls in real time — whether the voice on a bank’s phone line or the face in a job interview is real. As a Quality Assurance Engineer, you’ll make sure what we ship holds up to that standard, testing our APIs, SDKs, web app, and real-time integrations, and building the automation that lets us release faster without breaking things. This is a full-time role based at our NYC headquarters or remote within the U.S., reporting to Quality Assurance Lead. Responsibilities include:
Own test planning and execution for assigned product areas — APIs, SDKs, the web app, and real-time voice and video integrations — from requirements review through release sign-off
Build and maintain automated test suites (API, end-to-end, and regression) and integrate them into our CI/CD pipelines
Find, document, and track defects with clear reproduction steps, severity, and impact, and work with engineers through to resolution
Test the reliability and performance of real-time detection under realistic conditions — latency, load, varied audio and video quality, and different platforms and devices
Help maintain the test data and media sets used to validate each release
Partner with the AI Research and Red Team to support model release validation and regression testing
Help Customer Support and Solutions Engineering reproduce and triage customer-reported issues
Contribute to QA standards, documentation, and release checklists across the engineering team
Within 12 months, you’ll…
Own QA for multiple product areas with minimal oversight
Have helped establish quality metrics (escaped defects, coverage, release stability) that the team tracks and acts on
Be improving QA tooling and practices beyond your own areas
Be ready to take on broader scope and mentor newer QA team members
Benefits
Healthcare plans with 100% premium coverage for employees and partial coverage available for dependents
Dental and Vision plans with 100% premium coverage for employees and their dependents
FSA/HSA and 401k programs
Short/Long-term disability and life insurance plans with 100% premium coverage for employees
Learning and Development budget
Equity compensation
12 weeks of Parental Leave
20 days of PTO per year
Annual company-sponsored offsite
Monthly wellness benefits
Preferred experience
Exposure to performance or load testing tools (e.g., k6, Locust, JMeter). (nice to have)
Strong attention to detail and a systematic approach to finding edge cases — you think about how things break, not just whether they work
Experience testing audio, video, or real-time communication products (WebRTC, telephony, conferencing). (nice to have)
3+ years of experience in software QA or quality engineering, testing web applications and APIs in a fast-moving release environment
Hands-on experience writing automated tests in Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, or similar, using frameworks such as Pytest, Playwright, Cypress, or Selenium
Experience testing ML-powered products or working with test datasets. (nice to have)
Clear written communication: your bug reports and test plans are easy for engineers to act on
Experience testing REST APIs (e.g., Postman or code-based API tests) and working within CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions)
