Fibre Optic Technician – Telecom & Operations

Join Nexans Norway – Submarine Telecom & Special Cables (STSC)

At Nexans, we're helping electrify the future and connect the world. Our Submarine Telecom & Special Cables (STSC) business is growing, and we're looking for a skilled and motivated Fibre Optic Technician to join our Telecom & Operations team.

In this role, you will take the technical lead for submarine optical fibre products throughout the entire project lifecycle—from engineering and procurement to manufacturing, installation, and commissioning. You will also contribute to the development and continuous improvement of our submarine optical fibre cable portfolio, supporting innovative solutions for customers around the world.

About the Team

The Telecom & Operations department consists of 21 highly skilled engineers and technicians responsible for the design, development, and delivery of submarine optical fibre systems.

Working in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment, the team supports all project phases, including system implementation, integration, factory and commissioning, installation support, and maintenance. Together, they ensure reliable, high-quality solutions for a wide range of submarine applications.

Our product portfolio includes:

  • Submarine optical fibre cables and optical fibre elements.
  • Submarine power cables.
  • Umbilicals.
  • Sensor systems.
  • Accessories and specialised equipment.

Your Responsibilities

As a Fibre Optic Technician, you will play a key role in the production, installation, testing, and maintenance of optical fibre systems. You will work closely with colleagues in production, engineering, quality, project management, and offshore operations to ensure high-quality project delivery. The role includes international travel to support projects at customer sites, both onshore and offshore.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assembling, terminating, splicing, and testing optical fibre cables and components in production facilities.
  • Performing inspections, fault finding, and repairs on fibre optic systems to ensure compliance with quality standards.
  • Supporting factory acceptance testing (FAT), system integration, and final product verification.
  • Preparing equipment and materials for project deliveries and offshore mobilization.
  • Traveling internationally to support installation, commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting activities at customer sites, both onshore and offshore.
  • Working closely with engineering teams to resolve technical issues during production and field operations.
  • Ensuring all work is carried out in accordance with company procedures, quality requirements, and HSE standards.
  • Completing technical documentation, test reports, and service records accurately and on time.
  • Supporting continuous improvement initiatives within production and field service operations.
  • Participating in training and maintaining competence in fibre optic technologies, tools, and industry standards.

Who We Are Looking For

You are a hands-on and quality-focused technician who enjoys working in a practical environment, solving technical challenges, and supporting projects around the world.

We believe you have:

  • A technical vocational certificate, apprenticeship, or relevant education in fibre optics, telecommunications, electronics, low or high voltage disciplines, or related field.
  • Experience with fibre optic cable preparation, splicing, connectors, and testing using industry-standard equipment.
  • Experience from manufacturing, production, offshore, marine, or field service environments is an advantage.
  • Willingness and ability to travel internationally and work on customer sites, including offshore installations when required.
  • The ability to read and understand technical drawings, procedures, and documentation.
  • Strong communication skills in Norwegian and English, both written and spoken.
  • A structured, proactive, and safety-conscious approach to your work.
  • The ability to work independently as well as part of multidisciplinary teams.
  • A flexible mindset and the ability to adapt to changing project requirements and travel schedules.

What We Offer

At Nexans, you'll become part of an international company with ambitious growth plans and a strong focus on innovation, sustainability, and employee development.

We offer:

  • A challenging and rewarding role in a global technology company.
  • Exciting and varied projects with international impact.
  • Flexible working hours and home office opportunities.
  • Excellent opportunities for professional and personal development.
  • Competitive salary and attractive benefits.
  • Comprehensive pension and insurance schemes.
  • A collaborative and supportive working environment with knowledgeable colleagues.
  • And yes—great coffee.

If you're looking for an opportunity to combine technical expertise with cutting-edge submarine technology, we'd love to hear from you.

Join us and help shape the future of submarine connectivity.
