Job description

The role:
DNA Script is looking for a talented individual to take up a key role in the Advanced Research team at Kremlin-Bicêtre in Paris. He or she will report to the Director of Advanced Research and be responsible for developing, characterizing and supplying solid supports for use in Advanced Research projects. To perform these tasks, the candidate will need to be organized, proactive, detail-orientated, enjoy problem-solving, and be able to work in a multi-disciplinary environment.

Responsibilities

He/she will be responsible for:

  • Sourcing planar solid supports (glass, plastic and silicon) with appropriate characteristics (e.g. optical transparency, flatness) and modifications (e.g. fiducial markings, electrodes),
  • Investigating chemistries to immobilize DNA on said solid supports in different locations and at different densities in a robust manner,
  • Investigating passivation methods to protect against sticking of reagents used in DNA synthesis,
  • Characterizing said supports with different techniques (e.g. contact angle, microscopy, ellipsometry),
  • Determining the surface behaviour of said solid supports with repeated exposure to liquids used in DNA synthesis (e.g. wetting, robustness),
  • Developing ways to cleave DNA from said supports in an efficient manner that are appropriate for downstream applications,
  • Optimizing said supports based on feedback from synthesis tests performed by colleagues,
  • Supplying appropriate modified solid supports to colleagues,
  • Streamlining the production of solid supports and developing methods of batch manufacture.

Preferred experience

Qualifications and experience

He/she will:

  • Have a degree or advanced qualification (M.Sc. / Ph.D) in a relevant subject (e.g. surface chemistry, physical chemistry, colloid and polymer chemistry),
  • Possess prior experience of modifying glass, plastic and silicon (ideally planar) solid supports for bioapplications (e.g. in vitro diagnostics, next generation sequencing),
  • Be comfortable writing protocols, progress reports and presenting results in R&D meetings in English,
  • Be organized, proactive, task-orientated, and able to work to deadlines.

Recruitment process
