Our take
Modern law firms increasingly manage their work digitally but the lack of a specialised remote solution means that workflows have become fragmented. This leads to legal practice managers having to juggle multiple software solutions across various devices. Clio provides a legal practice management platform designed for law firms, allowing users to manage billing for legal aid cases, access and manage documents and store files across multiple devices. Whilst other startups are operating in this niche, Clio has uniquely focussed on synchronisation across remote devices and on a wide range of integrations, allowing the user to access information from other industry standard software such as Xero and Klyant from within a single interface. Clio has raised a large amount of investment capital and benefited from the COVID-era move to cloud technologies. Most recently, it raised a 2024 Series F round, which saw the company attain a valuation exceeding $3 billion. This funding is being used to accelerate AI development and to allow existing investors and employees to cash out their shares.
You'll be working on
- We are seeking a Staff Product Designer to join our growing Product Design team
- Design plays a pivotal role at Clio, standing alongside Product and Engineering as one of the three pillars of our Research and Development organization
- Our product designers work directly with customers to understand their behaviors, needs, and workflows
- They champion thoughtful, high-quality experiences as we transform how lawyers and their teams serve their clients

- The Judiciary team is brand new, aspiring to help judges and clerks navigate their work in the age of AI
- Courts are facing many of the same technological shifts reshaping the broader legal profession, but the stakes and requirements are different
- As AI becomes a more significant part of how legal work gets done, technology built for the judiciary must protect judicial independence and impartiality while meeting rigorous standards for transparency, security, and the integrity of judicial decision making
- That creates a clear need for technology designed specifically for courts and judges
- As a Staff Product Designer, you’ll be working on a zero-to-one product in an emerging space with little precedent
- You’ll lead strategy and end-to-end experience design across a complex product area — from discovery and opportunity framing through launch and iteration
- You will work as part of a small team, led by former Chief Justice of the Michigan Supreme Court, Bridget McCormack
- Ideal candidates thrive in ambiguity, turning deep customer understanding into clear direction, cohesive experiences, and measurable outcomes
- You’ll partner closely with Product and Engineering leaders to set vision, raise the quality bar, and elevate other designers, including shaping AI experiences that are trustworthy, explainable, and appropriately controlled
- Partner with Product and Engineering leaders to define experience strategy, success metrics, and high-leverage priorities, grounded in customer insights and business outcomes
- Build deep customer intuition and systems understanding, translating complex workflows and constraints into clear direction and durable experience decisions
- Lead end-to-end design across multi-surface journeys — from opportunity framing and to prototyping, validation, and high-quality execution
- Shape a compelling long-term experience vision for your problem space, bringing others along through storytelling and collaboration thinking
- Raise the quality bar across a broader product ecosystem through cohesive, accessible, and scalable experiences that push beyond “good enough.”
- Drive consistency and leverage across teams by strengthening patterns, frameworks, and design system evolution beyond your immediate scope
- Help teams navigate ambiguity and make strong decisions through facilitation, decision framing, and proactive cross-functional collaboration
- Mentor and elevate other designers through constructive critique, coaching, and role-modelling strategic thinking and bar-raising craft
- Partner with the product design manager of your portfolio to uphold the quality and craft of design in your product area
- Contribute to design culture and org-wide initiatives through Staff-level forums and leadership beyond your immediate portfolio

We're looking for
- In particular, we are looking for a designer who is entrepreneurial, has a sharp and discerning eye, can build for complexity while maintaining subtlety, and has solid research chops (with fairly niche users) — going beyond what they say to what they really need. We need someone who can imagine what does not yet exist
- Strong cross-functional partner who drives execution across teams and workstreams
- Proven ability to design scalable experiences across multiple customer segments and/or products (e.g., Solo, SMB, and Mid-Market)
- Deep mastery of UX craft, including complex interaction design, information architecture, usability, and visual design
- 8+ years of Product Design experience, B2B SaaS experience is preferred, but not required
- Strong product judgment and business acumen — able to connect customer needs to strategy, metrics, and roadmap decisions
- Proven track record of shipping high-quality work that solves customer problems and moves key product metrics
- Excellent presentation and storytelling skills
- Advanced customer-centric practice, able to lead discovery and align multiple teams around customer needs and opportunities
- Proven experience designing AI-powered experiences, including interaction patterns for trust, transparency, and appropriate user control across complex workflows
- Proven systems thinking — able to design reusable frameworks and patterns that scale across teams and products
- Expertise in modern design and prototyping tools, and practical fluency with AI tools in your workflow (e.g., Figma Make, Cursor, Claude, etc.)
- Experience mentoring peers
- Experience leading complex, cross-team initiatives and delivering cohesive solutions across interconnected systems
- Skilled facilitator who aligns leaders, drives decisions, and moves teams forward through ambiguity
- Launched new products in emerging or ill-defined markets
- Strong research skills, demonstrated through grounded interpretation, not just descriptive summarization, including effective use of stimulus and prototypes
- Demonstrated success and learnings from driving zero-to-one product launches
- Startup experience, in addition to B2B SaaS at a medium-sized company or larger
- Experience designing for technical, highly skilled, and hard-to-access users
