Job description

The international news agency AFP (Agence France-Presse) seeks an experienced, dynamic and innovative English-language economics correspondent to join its editorial team in either Mumbai or New Delhi. Bengaluru may also be considered as a location.

This is a rare opportunity for the right candidate to join the staff of a global news organisation with bureaus around the world, offering exceptional career development possibilities.

The successful candidate will cover both business and economics – including quarterly earnings and macro-economic indicators – as part of a multi-media team producing both daily news and off-diary features.

They must be capable of producing fast, accurate and vivid news copy under deadline pressure, as well as original, imaginative features and analysis telling the story of the world’s fifth-biggest economy and the people driving it and working in it to a global audience.

Reaching younger audiences is central to our coverage and the successful candidate will be packed with bright multimedia story ideas that will boost the file, in collaboration with the photo and video teams.

The correspondent will be expected to contribute to coverage of general news when needed, and to be flexible in terms of hours, including working evenings and weekends when necessary.

Preferred experience

  • The successful candidate will be an experienced business/economics journalist (minimum 5 years) with top-notch writing and reporting skills and an established range of contacts

  • Native-level Hindi and fluent English are required, with other Indian languages an advantage. For a position in Mumbai, fluent Marathi would be a strong advantage. A command of French would be an advantage but is not required

  • Video and photo skills would also be an asset but are not essential

  • The correspondent will be a good team player in an international workplace, able to spot and report stories of interest to AFP’s readers around the world
