The position

Job description

Verley is entering a key phase in its growth: the industrial deployment of its proprietary biotechnological processes. After validating our approach at laboratory and pilot scale, we are now moving toward full-scale manufacturing through a network of external production partners (CMOs). To support this transition from R&D to industrial operations, we are implementing a fully outsourced production model.

The Lead Process Engineer will play a central role in this industrial ramp-up, coordinating production activities with our partners across the EMEA region, requiring regular travel within Europe. This phase is critical to Verley’s success and requires strong technical leadership to ensure the reliable, efficient, and high-quality transfer of our processes to commercial manufacturing. The position reports to the Head of Industrialization.

Key Responsibilities

Process Scale-Up & Industrial Deployment

  • Lead the industrialization of fermentation and purification processes from pilot to commercial scale.

  • Define and validate critical process parameters; ensure robustness, reproducibility, and cost-efficiency.

  • Establish robust SOPs.

  • Analyze scale-up data and implement technical improvements in collaboration with R&D and Manufacturing.

Tech Transfer & CMO Interface

  • Act as the main technical point of contact for external manufacturing partners.

  • Oversee tech transfer activities: documentation, training, production readiness, troubleshooting.

  • Verify the implementation of jointly defined SOPs.

  • Review and approve manufacturing documentation (batch records, protocols, deviations, CAPAs).

  • Provide on-site support during scale-up and manufacturing campaigns.

Cross-functional Collaboration

  • Ensure alignment between process development, quality, regulatory, and analytical functions.

  • Collaborate closely with the Head of Industrialization and the broader technical team.

  • Contribute to risk assessments, process control strategies, and regulatory documentation.

Technical Leadership

  • Mentor junior engineers and technicians in both USP and DSP disciplines.

  • Promote technical excellence and knowledge sharing within the team and across projects.

  • Ensure consistency and quality in process development and execution.

Preferred experience

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in bioprocess development and industrial scale up.

  • Proven track record of at least one full industrial scale-up (pilot to manufacturing scale, 100-300 m³).

  • Deep expertise in bioprocess engineering, ideally covering both USP and DSP.

  • Solid background in bioprocess engineering

  • Experience working with CMOs/CDMOs, including tech transfer and troubleshooting.

  • Hands-on, analytical, and execution-driven.

  • Fluent in English; French is a strong plus.

  • Willingness to travel regularly to production sites internationally.
