Job description

At Sentric, we’re driven by a mission to create a fairer music industry for artists. We’re looking for enthusiastic graduate and associate-level Software Engineers from the Merseyside area to launch their careers with our team in our modern Liverpool office. We offer a hybrid work model and are committed to creating an inclusive and supportive environment where everyone can learn and grow.

About the Role

The Senior Cloud Engineer plays a pivotal role in the effective operation and continuous improvement of the AWS cloud estate and associated application engineering activities. This role provides critical support to the various Engineering disciplines and wider Product and Insights functions with empathetic expertise, practices, guidance and tooling necessary to ensure efficiency, performance, scalability, security, compliance, and developer experience of our AWS application estate.

Key responsibilities:

Culture and behaviour:

  • Honesty: Communicate trade-offs, risks, and timelines transparently; own mistakes and remediation.
  • Originality: Propose and trial pragmatic improvements grounded in data.
  • Progression: Share knowledge via documentation, pairing, and brownbags; seek and provide feedback.
  • Kindness: Collaborate respectfully; design with developer ergonomics in mind.
  • Behaviours for success: Proactively surface solution-focused insights on spend, performance, and risk; align platform work to product goals and follow through to impact.

Deliver continued improvements towards cloud infrastructure maturity

  • Support Engineering in improving cloud and application security posture, facilitating Threat Modelling and Risk Analysis activities, guiding discussions on mitigation controls and implementation planning.
  • Take a leading, hands-on role in the implementation of critical BCDR controls and practices
  • Lead in the adoption of FinOps practices, including the continuous monitoring of cloud activity for potential cost savings, supporting engineering colleagues towards effective labelling and attribution practices.
  • Evolve the design of the AWS cloud estate, ensuring an effective deployment of AWS accounts and security practices aligned to Well Architected Framework.
  • Work with suppliers (AWS, DoiT, etc) to ensure effective supplier relationships, sufficient knowledge/expertise and favourable cost decisions.

Drive the adoption of best practices across engineering

  • Guide engineers in the deployment and operation of core AWS services including S3, ECS, EC2, Aurora, RDS, CloudWatch, Lambda, and associated services
  • Guide best practices in Data Engineering and integration activities including with external services such as Elastic and Snowflake
  • Provide guidance and expertise on cloud engineering and IaC to Platform and Engineering colleagues, enabling a 'you build it, you run it' delivery culture
  • Support Platform efforts to optimise CI/CD for speed, reliability, quality, and security

Champion observability best practices, ensuring comprehensive monitoring, logging, and tracing across all services and environments

  • Enforce IAM and security best practices, including least privilege access, role-based permissions, and secure credential management
  • Support engineers with effective knowledge and tooling in improving QoS and incident response

Provide critical support to Product, Insights and Engineering leadership

  • Help manage licensing of critical services and tools, ensuring compliance and cost-effectiveness
  • Conduct risk assessments and maintain risk registers, providing regular updates on mitigation progress
  • Lead cloud infrastructure cost management through analysis, forecasting, and budgeting activities
  • Support capacity planning decisions based on business requirements and growth projections
  • Act as technical adviser for strategic cloud initiatives and technology selection
  • Deliver regular reports on infrastructure health, costs, and optimisation opportunities to senior stakeholders
