Position Summary

As Backend Senior Engineer at Prose, you will be in charge of developing and implementing our website and back-office using web technologies. When developing features you may be tasked with architecturing new solutions.

As a Squad member, you will be working closely with a Proxy Product Owner, Product Managers, as well as engineers across the stack (Backend, Frontend & Devops). Also, as a technical expert in Backend engineering, you will be mentoring other back-end peers.

Key Responsibilities

  • You will be responsible for designing and building our platform focusing on our website & back-office systems.
  • Audit, compare and select the open-source technologies that we can build upon in accordance with our existing stack
  • Ensure that we are shipping stable, high-quality code to which you are proud to be a contributor
  • Deliver excellent software through comprehensive peer-reviews, CI, and automated testing
  • On-board and mentor new engineers.
  • Contribute actively to recruitment of new backend team members by evaluating candidates and reviewing technical assignments.
  • Work closely with the product team as well as the back-end team to design and implement features
  • Bring your personal expertise and ideas to help solve problems creatively and effectively
  • Promote the company's mission and values

Key Candidate Requirements

  • Strong previous experience as Backend engineer with Python, along with common libraries such as Django, Requests, Celery (3 years minimum)
  • Experience with SCRUM methodology and squad-based organization a plus
  • Experience building robust Restful APIs
  • Strong understanding of fundamental design principles behind a scalable application
  • Understanding of front-end technologies
  • A knack for writing clean, readable and maintainable code
  • Knows SQL outside of Django ORM or SQLAlchemy (even though we encourage using an ORM where appropriate)
  • Able to design data schemas that represent and efficiently support business processes
  • Eager to implement automated functional and unit tests
  • Proficient with Git, a Unix shell, an editor (or IDE) and all others day-to-day developer tools
  • Familiarity with continuous integration, Docker, Kubernetes, a PaaS or IaaS platform
  • Familiarity with Stripe, Heap Analytics or similar a plus
  • Interest in React (JS and/or Native), AsyncIO, Go, ML and technology in general a strong plus
