The Role
Scaleway strengthens its Corporate Communication department with a talented “Public Affairs specialist”. We’re passionate about all Scaleway things and it’s our job to open it up to the world and help people better understand our technologies. We share stories, the ordinary and the extraordinary, and each of them shines a light on the products and services we build.

Missions

  • You will be responsible for defending the interests of the company and communicating it.
  • You’ll craft effective communication and influence strategies and messaging that successfully lands in a human way, and considers the unique needs of different internal and external communities across Scaleway.
  • You will participate in building the image of the brand and its executive board in the public debate by ensuring the company’s presence at major industry events and in the media;
  • Influence: drafting of expert reports for public authorities, preparation of meetings and institutional events;
  • Intelligence: writing of a monthly watch identifying the risks and opportunities in Europe.
  • Participate and drive working groups of European programs, on themes like interoperability, security, use cases to be developed, changes in the legal framework, etc.
  • Communicate our position on key policy issues in public presentations to a wide range of audiences, both internally and externally
  • Coordinate internal and external players across countries and time-zones, keeping all informed of progress and deadlines

What We Expect from You

  • Our ideal candidate is a public policy expert, combining a passion for seeing the potential of technology with the ability to create the opportunity to connect in Europe.
  • While having a deep understanding of the expectations of European countries and public institutions you will be a deeply strategic thinker who can drive results, with an extensive knowledge of the political and regulatory dynamics across key markets in Europe. Always on the front foot, our candidate will have the ability to see emerging regulatory trends, in order to quickly discern the impact taking place in our industry. Strong writing and editing skills are essential—specifically the ability to communicate complex, technical concepts to diverse audiences in a clear and concise manner as you will be dealing with the most crucial public policy challenges of our time, including privacy, competition, transparency, safety and security, the impact of the internet on economic growth, and new opportunities for democratic engagement.
  • You enjoy a fast-paced environment and are able to ask the right questions in order to get a quick understanding. You see beyond the challenges and think creatively about solutions. You stay focused and flexible in a complex and ambiguous environment, and are not easily deterred by change.

Minimal requirements

  • Native or bilingual English speaker and writer, Fluent in French. Spelling and grammar must be excellent.
  • Spanish or German are a plus! If you’re not fluent in both French and English, it’s a deal breaker.
  • Experience and training in related field and 5+ years experience in a full time public affairs role
  • Proven experience of demonstrating leadership and positive impact on regulatory/public policy threats
  • Experience turning complex information into relevant, engaging, timely and valuable content for different audiences
  • A track record of writing and delivering position papers, articles, speeches, and presentations on relevant topics
  • Experience working collaboratively with cross-functional groups including Legal, Policy, Brand, Marketing, and Technical
  • The ability to connect the unconnected, and extensive experience with relevant policy issues, including internet governance, data privacy, taxation, net neutrality, etc
  • Media relations and social media analytics skills and strategic thinking skills
  • Experience working with executives in fast-paced, regulated environments
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including relationship building, and collaboration with a diverse, cross-functional, global team
  • Self-motivated, proactive with demonstrated creative and critical thinking capabilities
  • Determined hard worker, flexible & open to working on various tasks that are not always part of your scope.
  • Experience in, or strong affinity with, the IT industry
