The CMC biological molecule development teams based at the Vitry sur Seine site play a key role in Sanofi's research and development to make new innovative treatments available to patients. They are involved from the selection of the molecule to its commercialization.

 The technology platform brings together all the activities necessary: process development (cell culture, purification, conjugation) the manufacture of clinical batches, analytical characterization and formulation development.

CMC development teams are expanding and opening positions in a context of strong cell culture project portfolio growth (Monoclonal and multispecific antibodies, antibody drug conjugates).

JOB OVERVIEW

Cell Culture Process Development is part of the Mammalian Platform Development within the Research and Development organization at Sanofi. We are a dedicated team of around 25 highly specialized and experienced employees. As a department we are engaged in final monoclonal cell line selection and design of high yielding, robust & transferrable cell cultivation processes, mainly fed-batch process, for the supply of clinical API and biopharmaceutical products.

Main tasks of this position are to select the best monoclonal cell line and to design both initial and late stage processes. Those processes are then transferred to GMP manufacturing international network. The task is also to develop and document that cell lines and the cell culture process are suitable for up-scaling to internal manufacturing facilities and/or Contract Manufacture Organization (CMO). As part of this development flow the team manager take responsibility for structured, constructive and convincing interactions and dialogues with colleagues from other functions both locally in Vitry but also globally.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • One of your main responsibilities is to outline and execute the development of upstream CHO cell processes for early and late stage projects in close dialogue with your colleagues both in the department and across the organization. In addition, you will establish experimental and data analysis approaches/templates for process development and process characterization and validation, author technical protocols and reports
  • The goal is to secure a process of high quality in terms of yield, product quality, robustness and transferability within the deadlines set out by the project
  • In order to ensure high quality of the data generated, it is expected that you spend time in the laboratory to help your staff optimizing use of equipment and introducing new technologies. You will take an active part in establishing data management systems for both plates/AMBR automatized systems, waves and benchtop bioreactors
  • You are expected to contribute to project execution activities including engaged participation in project planning meetings, task force meetings, preparation of status reports and technology transfer processes
  • As team manager, you will have to manage a team of technicians

REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ph.D. in biotechnology / biochemistry or graduate of engineering schools with at least 2 years or industry experience in bioreactor cell culture preferably with CHO cells expression system
  • Demonstrate ability to initiate/lead innovations, develop best practices and drive for results in a global organization
  • Foster teamwork and actively participate in the review of projects with colleagues throughout the company and outside business partners
  • Strong collaboration & communication skills and ability to build and maintain relationships with partners, customers and collaborators
  • Excellent verbal and written communicator of ideas, project goals and results to peers and management
  • Proactive, goal-oriented, positive & social mindset
  • Experience in process & technology transfer, late stage process development, and process characterization and validation is highly desired
  • Experience in CHO medium/feeds development, digitalization/data management and LEAN experience are an advantage
  • Experience in managing technicians is an advantage
