The Role

GoPro is seeking a top-tier Mechanical Engineer to join their innovative engineering team developing tech-enabled motorcycle helmets trackside at Sydney Motorsport Park. The role is hybrid between remote work and office, ensuring you will work closely with the world-class team designing, engineering and testing helmet technology at our headquarters, while providing the work-life balance of some days of remote work.

You will work from the early stages of the product, contributing your expert engineering knowledge to concept development, feasibility analysis, prototype development, engineering validation and design for manufacture.

You will also work closely with internal and external partners to generate all necessary documentation and test plans to confirm product(s) meet specification. In addition, you’ll ensure product features achieve cost, schedule, reliability, thermal and regulatory/safety goals. The ideal candidate should have thorough ability to use state-of-the-art CAD and analysis tools to create mechanical designs, primarily consisting of injection-molded plastic, stamped sheet-metal, and die-cast component assemblies for high-volume mass production.

The role requires an engineer with exceptional interpersonal skills to contribute to cross-disciplinary decision making around complicated product functions. The ideal candidate is a generous contributor to their team and a great collaborator outside of it.

  • Conduct and participate in mechanical engineering evaluation and test to validate the robustness and proper performance of new products
  • Collaborate with internal and external teams (i.e. suppliers, partners, ID, PDM, manufacturing, operations, quality, tooling, etc.) to ensure the successful development and launch of new products
  • Contribute to the development of mechanical tooling and production part qualification (i.e. first-article inspections, manufacturing process capabilities (Cp/Cpk), measurement gage repeatability and reproducibility (GR&R), material certifications, etc.)
  • Utilize best-in-class tools to develop innovative mechanical solutions to highly complex problems

Skills We’re Excited About

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar
  • 8+ years of relevant experience in mechanical and/or product design development
  • A solid understanding of Lean and Agile processes for hardware products
  • Experience engineering within a highly regulated industry
  • Thorough knowledge and experience utilizing CAD modeling tools
  • Extensive experience with injection molded plastic design
  • Experience creating MCOs for PCB/FPC design and working directly with EE team members
  • Effective management of engineering projects both internally and with 3rd parties
  • Strong knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerencing and performing statistical tolerance analysis
  • Skilled communicator, able to move between spoken, written and visual communication with ease
  • Ability to handle various projects simultaneously in a productive and timely manner
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with strong interpersonal skills
  • Willingness to travel internationally

Bonus Points For

  • Enthusiasm for and/or experience in automotive engineering
  • Expertise designing manufacturable plastic parts with organic 3D geometry and class-A surfaces
  • Competence in Siemens NX and Teamcenter
  • Experience designing FEA, CDM and thermal simulations, and designing around the results
