Glose est l’application qui rend la lecture plus sociale, plus efficace et plus fun. Sur web et mobile, Glose permet de découvrir, lire, surligner et annoter les passages de milliers de livres numériques et d’échanger avec une communauté de lecteurs.

Job description

As a Senior Android Engineer on the Books team, you’ll help engineer the best reading experience for readers and authors, create a place to spread ideas worth reading and contribute to our core mobile architecture.
We’re looking for an experienced engineer who can build beautiful, polished user experiences and architect elegant, maintainable code. We prioritize fast iteration without compromising quality, while maintaining an attention to detail that creates the kind of thoughtful interactions we’re known for.

What will you do?
As an Android engineer at Medium, you will be responsible for developing major new features in the Medium Android app, as well as driving improvements to the existing Android codebase.
You will work in a fast paced, collaborative environment with product managers, designers, and Android engineers all on the same team, working together to build a world class reading experience that we’re all proud of.

  • You’ll be in charge of all our Android/Kotlin/Java stack
  • Build & maintain a full featured Android application
  • Conceive, design and implement new features
  • Work hand in hand with the product, design and API teams
  • Stay up to date with the latest mobile technologies and be proactive with upcoming SDK & OS features
  • Participate in regular design reviews with a world-class team

Preferred experience

Who are you?

  • You have 4+ years of recent experience building native Android apps.
  • You have a robust knowledge of Kotlin, and the Android development ecosystem as a whole.
  • You’ve built complex, high quality Android applications, and have a strong knowledge of Android app design principles, patterns, and best practices.
  • You have a deep understanding of the Android platform, including different device capabilities, battery life, performance, and push notifications.
  • You have experience writing automated tests for Android applications.
  • You work autonomously, and are more energized by missions and goals than a specific list of tasks.
  • Good oral and written communication in English

Nice to haves

  • A strong knowledge of algorithms, data structures and object-oriented methodologies.
  • Experience writing web services or other server-side components.
  • Experience with various mobile technologies such as local storage, networking, custom UI, animations
  • Experience with MVVM, AndroidX, GraphQL, Dagger, Retrofit, Stripe…
  • You like clean and maintainable code
  • Master of Android Studio + Gradle. Eclipse is the past

  • Resume and motivation screening: this is to know who you are and what you have achieved.
  • Technical challenge at home: and then to build a small product. This is to show us how you build things.
  • Technical Challenge in our office: you will be asked to solve more abstract problems live with our team. This is to see how you think. And also to debrief on what you build.
  • Personal meeting: this is to understand who you are and what you want –and to explain more of our culture. This is more personal. We don’t recruit to fill fixed positions.
