What is the Carbon Project Development Manager’s objective?
Carbon offset, carbon neutrality and net zero initaitives are gaining momentum in all our geographical areas. The voluntary market is growing rapidly as well as the demand for voluntary offsetting. On the compliance side, regional and sectorial regulations are escalating as well. Project development demand is growing, with increased interest in carbon sequestration and removals.
As a fast-growing organization, we are currently looking for a Manager Carbon Project Development – Community based Projects Leader within the Nature Based Solutions Business Unit.

Carbon Project Development Manager, Nature Based Solutions Business Unit
The Project Development Manager - Community-based projects leaderoversees and develop the current portfolio of community based projects for the Group Community-based technologies refers to all technologies enabling the displacement of decentralized use of thermal energy by local communities for primary needs such as cooking, boiling of water, heating, improved biomass or fossil fuel cookstoves, ovens, dryers, space and water heaters (solar and otherwise), heat retention cookers, solar cookers, bio-digesters, safe water supply and treatment technologies.

Being the Community lead within the Project Development team, He/She will therefore identify, assess potential, and secure the registration and verification of a dedicated community-based project portfolio under international carbon standards (VERRA and GS mostly).

To do so, the Manager Carbon Project Development leads EcoAct’s knowledge and activities to proactively frame and deploy EcoAct’s community-based project agenda and tasks. His / Her aim is that the group:

1) Performs the follow-up and delivery of current projects (Hifhadhi 1 and 2) in Kenya;
2) Secures a pipeline of in-house community-based certified projects in the coming years that delivers the planned carbon credits, notably under our PoA;
3) Is recognised as a key player worldwide community-based development and expertise in the offsetting and carbon sector;
4) Is integrated in key partnership and expertise networks related to this specific issue (cookstove alliance, development bank’s initiatives, etc.).

The Manager participates in and presents the community-based project’s strategy in regular meetings within NBS. He or She will have to perform carbon policy and market watch to assess and communicate trends.

Main responsibilities include
He/she will work under the supervision of the Head of Project Development in order to:

Contribute to the management and development of the project development portfolio

• Manage and ensure a strong follow-up of existing projects (particularly Hifadhi 1 and 2 projects)
o annual verification and validation activities, including drafting and submitting carbon documentation, liaison with VVB and Gold Standard, onsite audits and visits.
o contact with the client regarding operational/carbon matters, organization of Steering Committee
o Coordination of the local team
o Challenge, adjust and improve monthly budget if necessary, and oversee it.
o Frequent reporting of KPIs to NBS Management and Top Management

• Manage the multi-country community based PoA and related VPAs in Africa:
o Internal Coordination in close collaboration with the head of project development to ensure that the PoA and targeted VPAs are registered on time
o All activities related to validation and verification with the certification standards
o Build Partnerships with local NGOs and Businesses to develop the projects on the field

• Take part in project development activity: carbon methodologies, feasibility studies, validation, and verification documents, PDD, SDGs, etc

• Explore other projects development opportunities with potential partners:
o Countries: in Priority in Africa and South East Asia, but also in the Americas.
o Project Typologies: priority on community-based projects, but not limited to it, so the Manager will have to be involved in forestry projects, agroforestry, Blue Carbon and other Nature-Based projects.
o Respect the group standards and procedures in the development of new projects.
o Evaluate risks (technical, financial, regulatory…) and set up appropriate mitigated actions for the development of new projects.
o Set up Business Plan for each opportunity using various models (Development, sponsor, arranger), contribute to sustainable.
o Business Models set up with partners and stakeholders.
o Ensure and supervise the achievement of the projects’ objectives and deliverables all along the “certification life-cycle” (prefeasibility, feasibilities, carbon credits validation and verification).
o Follow the necessary KPIs and appropriated tools (MRV), in collaboration with the Project Development Team and the Portfolio & Partnership team.

Supporting the sales strategy

• Support to sales and business development: contributing to tenders (including, sometimes and when dedicated teams need support, projects sourcing), defining customized solutions to clients for project development, contributing to partnership agreements with clients, participating in commercial meetings and offers.

• Provide information, insight and support to account managers on project development and our portfolio.

Strengthen EcoAct’s expertise and positioning worldwide

• Perform market watch, especially on the development of new carbon projects methodologies and standards evolutions
• Asses new markets opportunities in collaboration with other departments (Sales, R&I, advisory…)
• Identify and perform needed expertise and trainings for EcoAct’ internal human resources
• In collaboration with the Head of Project Dev He/She launch specific innovative workstreams: Builds new monitoring tools with R&I and NBS, contributes in building initiative for specific clients when needed, etc.
• Contribute to external production: Expertise paper, blogs, ITW with medias, participation in methodological working groups
• Participate and contributes at a high level to PD and NBS’s strategy

Manage a dedicated team within Project Development

• The Carbon Project Development Manager will have management responsibilities: He/she manages a team of project developers and ensures the achievement of their projects’ objectives and deliverables related to community-based projects.
• She contributes to people’s appropriate career pathways and competencies development conjointly with the Head of Project dev.


Profil recherché

Required competencies for the position

• Experienced in offset project development
• Carbon finance expert: knowlegde of offset methodologies, market mechanisms, etc.
• Technical expertise on the field in energy projects, …
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Good knowledge with Microsoft suite (Excel, PPT)
• SIG competencies is a strong plus

Experience
• Proven experience in carbon offset project development: minimum of 7 to 15 years of expertise in carbon methodologies & offset, MRV, Climate change
• Demonstrated experience in international project management
• Fluent in French and in English, with Spanish being a bonus
• Position is Paris based, but possible to be based in other cities in France
