Your Mission
As a marketplace with more than 700 employees, enabling more than 200 000 people to travel each day BlaBlaCar is processing substantial amounts of personal data. As a company, we are committed to helping members protect their information and their privacy. We are currently looking for our new Senior Data Protection Counsel to join our Legal Team.
This role provides the unique opportunity to support BlaBlaCar in the still evolving and complex world of data protection compliance across a broad range of BlaBlaCar’s diverse and innovative businesses.
As a Senior Privacy Counsel, you will be supporting our overall compliance regulations and members’ experience. You will counsel and provide legal support to all our teams globally. You’ll work closely with the organization's senior management as well as Security, Engineering, Product, Community Relations, and Marketing teams. With the support of our privacy legal counsel, you will be deeply involved in ensuring that BlaBlaCar’s services are crafted, built, and maintained in a way that aligns with applicable privacy obligations around the world. You will be one of the central points of contact for any privacy-related matters within BlaBlaCar and be in charge of developing and supporting the implementation of the privacy compliance vision within BlaBlaCar.
Your responsabilities
Promote a culture of data protection compliance across all parts of BlaBlaCarCollaborate with teams across BlaBlaCar to help drive a global data protection program and governance structure consistent with relevant laws and regulations. Act as a partner for other in-house counsels on all kinds of data protection mattersDesign training plans and provide data protection advice and support to operational teams support our security incident response team and DPO in the evaluation of, and response to, potential data breaches including the management of regulator and user reports/ notifications as needed. Draft, implement and communicate policies, processes, and templates related to BlaBlaCar’s data protection practices. Provide leadership and support to ensure proper maintenance of accountability documentationCollaborate with internal partners to respond to requests from regulators, law enforcement, and customers. Your qualifications
At least 6 years’ post-qualification experience, with significant relevant privacy/data protection law experience at a top tier law firm, in-house or in a Data Protection AuthorityAbility to understand technology-driven businesses, communicate concisely, and influence effectively across a wide audience including BlaBlaCar’s leadership, engineering and product teams, and members of the legal team Strong “ambassadorial” skills, which you will put to work both internally to foster a strong data protection culture throughout the organization and externally in the area of data privacy to maintain and enhance users’ trust in BlaBlaCarExceptional ability to consistently deliver creative, thoughtful, and business-oriented results that appropriately balance growth and risk in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment Experience creating and managing compliance processes and moving large-scale project forward Flexibility and willingness to work with all levels of the organization, and to roll up your sleeves to get the job doneYou have excellent communication skills, you’re humble, and you enjoy sharing & learning from othersYou embrace change, are able to take a step back, prioritize, and focus on added-value tasksYou have a results-driven and impact-oriented mindsetFluency in English and French Nice to have: Another language (Russian, German, Spanish), Relevant in-house experience in an international company in the tech / digital space, Privacy certification If you don’t meet 100% of the qualifications outlined above, tell us why you’d still be a great fit for this role in your application!
