About the Group Legal Team:

The Group Legal team is a small team made up of highly qualified lawyers many of whom have international backgrounds. The Group Legal team has won the Financial Times Sustainability and ESG 2021 Award, the Trophée du Droit Insurance and Bank In house team award 2020 and Transaction of the Year Award 2018 for its work on the XL acquisition (€12.4billion) and the IPO of AXA’s US life company, AXA Equitable, which was the largest US IPO in 2018.

Job description:  

Member of the Group M&A legal team that is the Group’s centre of legal expertise for executing major international M&A, transversal and strategic projects in alignment with AXA’s current strategic plan for delivering growth and value. Working in close collaboration with the Group’s specialist corporate finance team and other group departments. Reporting to the Group Legal Head of M&A.

AXA’s M&A projects are multi-national covering: buying or selling companies/businesses, either as private negotiated deals or public takeovers; initial public offers for sales via listing on stock exchanges; establishing major long-term partnerships and joint ventures; and major distribution deals with upfront capital commitments. The role will also include working on other transversal strategic projects such as internal reorganisations, innovation, partnerships, corporate and regulatory matters.   

Recent work includes the sale of AXA Singapore to HSBC for €487m and a partnership with Microsoft Corporation for the creation of a digital health platform.

Profil recherché

Technical skills

  • Experienced senior qualified lawyer (at very least 6 years’ post-qualification), with first ranking international law firm training as a foundation for transformation at AXA into a high performing in-house counsel
  • Extensive experience of international corporate, M&A and commercial law

Soft skills:

  • Fluent in English and ideally highly proficient in French
  • Driven/highly motivated, autonomous with enthusiasm for new areas of expertise, needs agility to work outside own comfort zone and pick up, analyse and become expert on new topics quickly on a regular basis
  • Gravitas to work in close collaboration with senior management on evolving strategic and sensitive international issues in a high-pressure, time-critical environment
  • Client-driven and pragmatic 
  • Team player with ability to influence and federate across departments/the Group 
  • Strong communication skills
  • Courage to challenge, and be challenged
  • Integrity – trustworthiness is key due to dealing with confidential and price sensitive information on a regular basis
