Data has always been at the core of all the decisions we take at Spendesk.

As we scale up our company and business, data is taking an even larger place in our day to day lives and we are looking for a Head of Data Engineering to structure and scale the Data Engineering team.

This team is responsible for the product data engineering use cases, the reporting data pipeline and visualization, the revenue data and the data infrastructure.

It is currently composed of 6 people and we expect it to at least double in size within the next 12-18 months.

We expect the head of data engineering to build strong connections and partnerships with other departments at Spendesk to address the data needs across the company and build a unified data engineering roadmap aligned with the product roadmap.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build and own a unified roadmap for data engineering including revenue, reporting, product and machine learning use case
  • Structure, scale and manage the data engineering team, composed of data engineers, data analysts and data scientists
  • Maintain a strong engineering culture focusing on quality and speed, while ensuring we have excellent organisation, collaboration, and processes.
  • Work closely with Product Managers to integrate the data engineering roadmap into the product roadmap
  • Be responsible for the data engineering pipelines, architecture and infrastructure
  • Who we are looking for:

  • Fluent in written and spoken English - it is our business language
  • Strong management and organizational skills (at least 3 years of experience managing a data team)
  • Experience building and optimizing data pipelines, architectures and infrastructure
  • Strong analytical skills and experience working with unstructured data sets
  • You have strong opinions but you hold them loosely and are very pragmatic in the way you make your decisions and prioritization choices
  • You are strategic and think at a high level, but are also hands-on, execution-oriented, and capable of getting things done quickly
