Job description

We are looking for a Head of Product Design to join our amazing team. You will be working closely with the product and engineering leadership to shape the future of sustainable last mile delivery, creating world-class client and end customer experiences 💙

Our Product Design team is part of our larger Product team and you will be reporting directly to our Director of Product Design, and leading a team of product designers to shape Stuart’s client and end customer product experiences. You will collaborate and network widely within the company to build the Product Design strategy for those products. You will champion design excellence, critiquing and challenging design solutions, offering guidance and inspiring designers to do their best work.

The Head of Product Design is a strategic expert with a strong background in user-centred design practices, championing interaction design excellence along the way. You will partner with product and engineering leaders to craft a product vision that balances customer and business goals as well as provides guidance for hypothesis-driven product initiatives.

You will manage and coach a team of managers and individual contributors, offering career guidance and support to aid their individual development. You will challenge design solutions and play an active role in design critique across teams to ensure the very best in design excellence.

The ability to come up with great ideas and concepts, transform its complex logic into elegant, easy-to-use solutions, and then execute it with excellence within your team is the key to success in the role ✨

This position can be Remote (anywhere in the UK), In Office, or Hybrid in London 🇬🇧- Fora Space, 71 Central Street,  London EC1V 8AB

Please note that our main tech offices are Barcelona and Paris so if you will be based on one of these locations you can expect having most tech teams around 💪

What will I be doing? 🤔

  • Be part of the Product Leadership team, reporting to the Director of Product Design and working together with other Heads of Product Design to continue to grow, maintain and improve the discipline.
  • Hire, manage and mentor a team of product designers, with the right mix of skills and with a strong pipeline aimed at creating a great team in the future.
  • Nurture a caring, supportive and positive working environment providing team members with the ownership and autonomy to do their best work.
  • Coach all the members of your team and ensure each of them have a direction set in terms of goals and expected outcomes.
  • Drive excellence for the Product Design team through the development of best practices and standards, being a source of inspiration through showing by doing.
  • Ensure that design takes a strong leadership position with product & engineering and the wider business - be an evangelist for design excellence.
  • Represent Stuart through leadership on an industry-level.
  • Work together with the Heads of Product and the Head of Engineering of the Client Convoy to ensure the team delivers impactful and exceptional Client and End Customer experiences.
  • Together with the rest of the Tech leadership team be a part of defining our strategic direction and shaping the future of Stuart products.
  • Locating and challenging assumptions, involving stakeholders to broaden the perspective and validating the design hypothesis with users.
  • Work with product and engineering to foster a discovery-led approach to product development - not only ensure good product design but design how we work to achieve it.
  • Expert at stakeholder communications, setting expectations, managing sidewards (stakeholders), downwards (reports) and upwards (C-level & VP team).
  • What do we need from you? 😎

  • Overall 5+ years of experience at a digital product company
  • 3+ years of experience managing, hiring and leading design teams
  • Experience designing digital products and systems end to end, based on user research and quantitative data.
  • Ability to showcase/champion the value of product design practices within the company.
  • Ability to balance strategic and big-picture thinking, setting a clear vision and plan, with being hands-on and close to the detail. You are someone who’ll bring the right balance of strategy versus implementation needed in a high growth environment.
  • You are an excellent communicator, and comfortable working with multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong collaboration skills and the ability to look at problems from multiple perspectives.
  • Excellent communication is in your nature, you know how to get buy-in from stakeholders with your ideas on sustainable last mile delivery.
