Job description

Shopify is now a Digital by Design company. Great care and effort are being devoted to reimagining how we come together as an organization. In our new reality, our team is responsible for delivering learning and crafting team experiences across Shopify. This might be through onboarding, leadership training, workshops, or in real life (IRL) “bursts” (aka team offsites). Our experience working with teams and facilitating various types of team gatherings has brought into focus several needs:

  • Program Delivery: Provide scripted and discussion-based delivery of our suite of Talent Development learning programs (ex: company-wide onboarding, leadership development, and other company-wide ongoing development programming).

  • Team Facilitation: Organizing and running digital and IRL gatherings for teams (i.e. bursts, homesites, team bonding sessions, retrospectives etc.). These gatherings have unique needs that can be supported by our facilitation expertise, which is particularly impactful for meetings with senior audiences.

In addition to the above: 

  • Consultation Support: Teams come to us for guidance on planning their gatherings and a professional facilitator can provide advice, tools, and resources to assist teams in being more successful. 

  • Project Work: Relating to the needs of the team and business. Examples of this work include video creation, asset building and branding, new content creation in partnership with a learning designer, and more. 

As with everything at Shopify, we want this set of responsibilities to stay flexible and evolve as we capture learnings, needs, and we refine our overall strategy on how we come together. For example, it is to be expected that this role will contribute to the ideation and launch of IRL “bursts” as part of our future gathering strategy.

Preferred experience

  • Experience delivering scripted (with guides/speaker notes) and/or unscripted (guiding discussions, decision making, etc.) experiences 

  • Experience fostering psychological safety with groups (through establishing working norms, holding participants accountable to those norms, etc.) 

  • Experience facilitating or teaching using online tools (ex. Google Meet)

  • Confidence in supporting learners as they work through technical or complex learning material 

  • Ability to implement a variety of self-management practices that help you maintain energy levels and consistent delivery

  • A growth mindset; someone who can develop context quickly and translate your own understanding to participants clearly

  • Superb communication skills

  • Passion for professional development and mentoring others

  • Ability to travel globally approximately 1-3 times per quarter to deliver training

Would also be nice if you have:

  • Experience delivering highly effective group training to adults using various styles (i.e. presentation, facilitation, and teaching)

  • Comfort using data and feedback to iterate quickly

  • Exceptional storytelling capabilities to elevate and engage global audiences

  • Project management and operations/logistics experience

  • Experience with learning theory, instructional design, and content creation

  • Experience with graphic design, web design, or video creation.
