Job description

Tech at October

We think reinventing financing is a massive tech challenge, that’s why we built October as a tech and data-driven startup. Today, 15 developers are working on building the best financing experience ever made, very closely to the Product team.

We love JavaScript at October. That’s why every part of our stack is based on JS: we use Node.js (with some TypeScript) and MongoDB on the back-end, Ember.js on the front-end, and React Native on mobile. The platform runs on AWS, deployed using Terraform and Github Actions. You can take a look at our whole stack here: https://stackshare.io/october.

We believe in ownership and mentoring at October. By following good code practices and through code review, we make sure to deliver quality code and allow developers to grow their skills.

We follow the Scrum methodology: the Tech and Product teams are split in 3 squads, a 4th squad being built currently.

Your daily work

  • Write technical specifications for the features defined with the Product team
  • Write clean and tested HTML/JavaScript/CSS with Ember.js
  • Make sure the app is responsive and works across browsers (no IE 😉)
  • Review code from other developers
  • Implement and follow the design system from Figma using Storybook
  • Improve our product, technical stack, and processes
  • Help junior developers grow in the team
  • Design and deliver complex features or architectures

Preferred experience

What we need from you

  • You have at least 4 years of experience as a developer
  • You’re fluent in HTML, CSS and have a good knowledge of JavaScript
  • You have used a JavaScript framework before
  • You have an eye for details and for well designed, pixel-perfect products
  • You’re curious and eager to extend your technical skills
  • You can speak and work in Englis

Recruitment process

We follow a 4-steps interview process (2/3 weeks):

    1. First, an introduction call with our Talent Acquisition Manager (20min)
    1. Then, a JavaScript take-home exercise (1 week to do it)
    1. A Technical interview with the CTO and a developer (1h30)
    1. A Product interview around data modelisation with the CPO and a developer (1h)
