As a member of the Executive Leadership team, the Chief Risk Officer will focus on providing leadership, vision, and direction for Risk Management as well as for Internal Control activities to support the organisation’s short- and long-term goals. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong technical and interpersonal skills as well as being adept at engaging in risk conversations at multiple levels of the organisation, including the C-suite as well as functional leaders.

The candidate will lead and grow a team of risk management and internal control experts, develop, implement and maintain risk management policies, procedures, methodologies and tools, including the risk governance framework for the company. In addition, they will maintain and update these risk management elements as approved by relevant committees. They will also oversee the establishment of risk limits and monitor compliance with those limits in line with company needs.

Equally importantly, the person will provide independent oversight and challenge of the identification, assessment, monitoring, mitigation and reporting of all significant risks and risk practices within the company.

Your high-level role will entail owning two big areas of accountability:

  1. Heading up the Risk function

  2. Designing and building the company’s Risk appetite

In more detail, you will be responsible for the following professional activities:

Heading up the Risk function

  • Promote a culture of effective risk management and internal control to ensure that risk priorities are reflected in the company's strategic plans.

  • Demonstrate ethical leadership and drive the highest professional standards of integrity, probity and corporate governance.

  • Lead end-to-end risk management execution and drive sustainable growth for the company.

  • Identify and monitor potential threats to the company, including Credit and Enterprise Risk: Business Conduct, Capital Adequacy, Asset Quality, Data Privacy, Fair Customer Treatment, Operational Risk and Security.

  • Deliver regular risk analysis reports to company executives, including actionable plans for preventing potential risks at all levels.

  • Engage proactively with Regulators, and coordinate Regulatory watch: Basel III, AML-FT, etc.

  • Design the Risk function and hire a high-performing risk team.

  • Set the direction for the team and define quarterly/annual goals in agreement with other key stakeholders.

  • Develop risk maps and formulate strategic action plans to help minimise, manage, and mitigate primary risks and then monitor the progress of these efforts.

  • Engage relevant stakeholders in executing numerous governance-related activities, infrastructure enhancements and regulatory reporting for the PIL Risk team.

  • Coordinate and interact with a diverse range of stakeholders, including first Line and second line of defense, as well as leading the Internal Control team.

  • Build and lead a best-in-class analytics organisation.

  • Ensure high-quality performance and output from offshore teams partnering with the relevant team leads, maintaining optimal balance in work and resource allocation between onshore and offshore teams.

  • Designing and building the company’s Risk appetite

  • Design and develop new-to-bank customer strategy for Personal Installment Loans.

  • Act as a key member of the lending team to drive the lending growth strategy, including capabilities.

  • Connect with cross functional teams including Collections and Fraud to drive a robust strategy.

  • Partner with product teams, guide discussions and analyses on a number of portfolio-wide, horizontal initiatives (including new product launches, product changes and channel mix optimisation exercises) and related diagnostic exercises.

  • You are in the right place if you have :

  • 10+ years of relevant experience within risk management in a financial services company regulated in the EU.

  • 4+ years of direct people management experience.

  • Deep domain expertise in credit underwriting, regulator relations, process optimisation, and risk mitigation.

  • A business-oriented view of risk management.

  • An enthusiastic “roll up your sleeves” mindset.

  • The ability to deal effectively with ambiguity and thrive in an unstructured, fast-moving environment.

  • An inclination to solve problems systematically via infrastructure and automation.

  • A builder’s mindset with a willingness to question assumptions and conventional wisdom.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • And it’s a plus if :

  • You master an additional language other than French and English.

  • You are a Lydia power user and a fintech enthusiast.

  • You have experience with SQL or a willingness to learn.
