Job Description: 

HubSpot is looking for a Counsel to join the Commercial Legal Team and play a key role in developing and supporting our global commercial contracting strategy and negotiation.

In this role, you’ll get to:

  • Own our global commercial legal templates, including our Customer Terms of Service, and related playbooks, which includes revising our templates and playbooks based on customer and business feedback

  • Have responsibility for implementing global regulatory and market requirements to ensure compliance and the reasonable expectations of customers are met 

  • Work closely with our Commercial Legal team and our Deal Desk on applicable deal playbooks and negotiation strategy

  • Manage a regular review of our negotiation approach and implement strategic change based on that review

  • Partner with our Revenue Product Group and other internal teams on legal-related customer contract process reviews to ensure we’re facilitating a contractually sound and customer-centric approach that fits with our business objectives

  • Get involved with strategic commercial legal support in line with our business goals

  • Support other legal-related aspects of customer engagements as needed

  • Work with other various business teams on a variety of legal processes, risks and opportunities as needed

We are looking for people who: 

  • Are a graduate of an accredited law school or have an equivalent professional legal degree 

  • Are qualified or licensed to practice law in a European member state or the UK, or as a member of a State Bar Association in the U.S.

  • Must have deep SaaS contract drafting and negotiation experience

  • Have a minimum of 3+ years of relevant experience, in-house legal experience is a plus

  • Superior drafting skills with the ability to range from the most complicated legalese to distilling the most complicated legal concepts into straight-forward and business oriented communications 

  • Are able to work efficiently and effectively in a fast-paced and transparent environment

  • Are able to make decisions and provide advice/explain the rationale for the decision to a curious and empowered team

  • Appreciate the customer perspective and ‘solve for the customer’ mentality

  • Develop strong relationships based on trust with team members

  • Possess strong communication skills, especially via an internal wiki, Slack and Zoom (it’s how we communicate)

  • Are self-driven and solution oriented

  • Are passionate about the values in the HubSpot Culture Code
